| Post subject: | Where Is The IAT Sensor on a 2004 3.7L? |
I have searched the Net in vain in an attempt to locate where the IAT sensor is locate on my 04's 3.7L engine? I want to get one of those chips to increase mileage, since I drive about 110 miles a day and already have 67,000 on my 04. With gas prices going up ever day, it would be worth looking into. Thanks in advance. |

dont do it. i did it on my 03 and got an engine light every 150 miles. all those chips do is lower my gas mileage and make the computer think the air is cooler than it really is. when i changed it out my mileage went up from a consistant 15.5 mpg to 16.8-17.2. BTW its on the tube between the engine and air box. Chris |

The one I got is really small, it is a straight piece of wire with a small black plastic center, the name of it is Street Fury. I got it off eBay and maybe paid $15 with shipping. |

not to try and get you disheartened, but i did by one of those for my ranger a few years back, and notices the same thing that gpr65 noticed, that is, my gas mileage went down a bit as well as the engine light on constantly. pulled it out and everything went back to normal.. |

Well, I'll give it a shot, worst case is I am out around $20. |

Yes, the IAT sensor is on the intake tube right before the throttle body. |

Not trying to bash it or sound like a know-it-all, but it's a $.20 resistor and can be picked up at any electronics store. If you can find someone that already purchased one and get the color code (colors of the rings around it) from it I can tell what ohm it is. More ohms (resistance) = colder reading = more gas burned. My friend had one on his KJ and it kept giving a check engine light also. Just trying to save ya some $. Jason |

Jason So, we could experiment with slightly higher/lower resistance and see if there might actually be a point that nets better mileage? I have a whole bag of resistors here. Might be worth getting one just to experiment with. |

You should be able to, because I highly doubt that everybody is selling the exact same ohm resistor on ebay. A change of 100 ohm may make a big difference. Jason |

The gizmo they sent me is all black. I scanned it and can post a picture of it to the site, if someone can let me know how to do that |

all you do is buy the resistor and pull the plug off and put it in the two holes. i bought several resistors. tried a couple. i have a scan guage and the intake temps are 76, 72 and 80 they dont work. Sorry. 02 and 03s have the IAT sensor on the intake manifold and will benefit from relocation near the filter. i have done that and my temps went down from 112-125 degrees to 70-90 degrees. i have a scanguage to prove this. |

So you say they DO work? |

Yeah I made a cold air intake and relocated mine on an S-10 I had several years ago. You could really tell a difference at night especially, but also dropped MPG. GPR65 is saying that relocating does work on the 02 & 03 models because of drastic temp change. I would think you'd still going to lose MPG because of the extra fuel that is being burned. Jason |

they do what they say they do. but they dont work. and you lose mpg and i didnt notice any extra power. |
