Never go offroad ALONE! I have done it before to, and you can run into to trouble fast and nothing you can do about it. A Lift, tires and lockers will only help you out so much, espically in deep mud and ruts, once your hung up on your undercarriage your usually done. IMO

Ahhh, what a great story. Memories with your girl friend.

Look in this 4x4 section at the lifts thread. Choose a lift suitable your needs and budget. I would go with a Franken Lift by AllJ Products or a Rusty's coil lift.

Get you some bigger tires, 245/75/16s 0r 265/75/16s

get a tow strap

a locker if possible

and a good buddy to go out with when you get the wheelin urge.

Oh and skid plates are a good investment.

Howdy Freshmud....I see that we are practicaly neighbors.Glad you could get L.O.S.T. with us,and welcome to the best site ever for Liberty owners.Well, I think Neatus covered everything pretty well, except for the high top rubber boots. As mentioned, you should never go wheeling alone(unless your girlfriend wants you to),No just kiddin,it's always best to go with a few others.Don't forget to go to the "Midwest Section" and introduce yourself. It's a section of people from around our area and of all ages.Get some pictures of that jeep on here,we'll need some before and after pics so that when the "Mod-Bug" bites you we will see the total transformation of a very capable offroad machine.Again the Midwest group goes on trail rides, and usually welcomes even stock vehicles.

thanks a lot, i really want to find some people to go with because of days like today. thanks a lot for the info too. i definitely realized the importance of going with a group today. in my defense, that mud seemed hard at first...like i said this is my first time..im freshmud.

well do you have tow points??? both fronmt and rear tow hooks or hitches with shackles will help if you get stuck and need a pull or tow out.

My budy walked on top of mud and did not sink did not even stick to his shoes yet when his 4500 toyota truck drove on it he sank up to his bumpers
That is mud for ya
This is why I hate mud
mud=cleaning nothing else

to answer your questions what we found here in the south where mud is plentyful
keep moving forward or back and commit to making it "dont think you can know you can"
I know that sounds cheesy but it works
also what works is tires with a very open and deep tread patern
I run remingtom mud brutes they are very cheep but work very well in the mud better than MOST high end name brand tires do
after those are super swampers best are the good ole TSL Bias they own the mud hole and are also cheep but both suck for a DD wich I m sure your KJ is
as far as lifts go read up and choose wisely
as far as lockers go do the same

With every mod I do I try to avoid going cheep for the sake of "you get what you pay for"
like lockers ARB is hands down the best sure you can "Lincoln lock" it for under $50 bucks if you or some one you know can weld but it will handle like POOO
on the road
Just like with lifts you CAN run spacers and they may work fine but if you look at what they realy do you will see that they are not such a good idea
They ,in the end, preload you springs and cause your struts to wok over time to control the excessive spring rate that is not realy needed
similar to using OME HD springs with no extra weight on the front end just to get an extra 1/2" of lift that you can get by moving your strut up ~1/4-3/8"
out of the clevis

I know that others will dissagree but this is a discussion and I have expressed my oppinion on it

Tow points are the first thing you need before even thinking about going offroad. If you have the hitch on the rear, that will be fine for the back. The stock mopar towhooks or a hitch is good for the front.

You also need a full set of skid plates(Front, tranny, tcase, and gas tank) before doing any offroading. The stock mopar skids are ok but the tranny skid is alittle weak.

A lift is good after all that. The Rustys lift is a tried and true great all around lift. The Franken lift is the most extreme and tallest lift.

Tires are good after the lift.

A locker or Limited slip for the rear will also help TONS.

Finally, got any pics of the girl in the mud?

All of the above.... and a shovel.

And don't stress so much, if you are prepared.... mud is what it was supposed to be.... FUN!!

Being stuck is a GOOD thing.....

Just bring what you need to become UNstuck, most important...

a tow strap and another buddie with a rig that can pull you out!!!!

how do i post pics

First, find a host for the pic (photobucket.com, etc...), second upload it to there from your PC, third copy the code that looks like this and paste it here

Code:
[img]http:some.thing.here[/img]

And, finally, now that you've gotten the GF to go wheeling with you, convince her that she needs her own Jeep, and you can recover each other. That's my suggestion, anyway. ;) Now let's see that girl in the mud! :D
