Well I'm fixing to buy a lift and start wheeling again. So I've been reading and have learned that a gas tank skid is a MUST. But I was wondering is if I would need the engine/trani skid and the tcase skid also? I don't do a lot of wheeling mostly just 3 or 4 times a year but I do hit some rocks and some trails. So any opinions would help, Thanks LR |

i wouldnt go wheeling without the full set. Theres just too much at risk. If you ruin your t-case or tranny, thats big bucks. If you're looking to save some dough, then just get the Mopar skids. They're not the best, but are adequate if you dont come down hard on them. I used them ALOT a few months ago and they did fine. |

That's what I was thinking but wanted to make sure since I wouldn't be wheeling a lot, but could get some damage. So Kilby, Rocklizard, and Rustys are the only companies that have skids? Thanks LR |

Also AllJs and ASFIR. The skids are cheap insurance...I would also get some sliders to protect the rocker panels...no fun to fix those. |

I'd do sliders first and then look into skids. If your 'careful' you can get by with engine/trany skids |

1 ) Engine Skid 2 or 3 ) Transmission Skid or Sliders 4 ) Gas Tank Skid 5 ) Transfer Case Skid ALLJs Tranny Skid is the best/strongest Kilby Fuel Skid is the best/stongest ASFIR does have one skid that covers tranny AND transfercase...built for CRD but usually fit 3.7L w/ 45RFE tranny ASFIR Skids are aluminum to save weight Mopar Skids will do in a pinch and are cheap...front engine skid and fuel skid are both pretty good |

Skid Row (www.skidplates.com) also manufactures Liberty skids. |

Ok so all of the skids would be a great idea. So since I'm in college I'm going to buy my lift, used tires, and then probably gas tank skid. So then I was thinking the sliders since I don't get too crazy when I'm wheeling. Is this a good idea or would it be wiser to get the engine or tcase skid before the sliders? thanks for all of the input LR |

forget the gas tank skid for now thats the least of your worries. I scratched and hit things more often with my engine and transmission skid than anything else. but defintly get sliders to protect the rockers. I learned my lesson the hard way on my last rig. |

i just bought and installed all mopar skids.. all 4 were under $250 and installed within 45 mins. i dont deal with rocks too often.. so i didnt buy the best skids out there.. just cheap ones.. and even they seemed fairly strong to me. like others have said.. some are better than none |

Seriously, if you dont come down hard on the skids, the Mopar ones are fine. I got high centered on the Mopar tranny skid (which is said to be the weakest and a cause of much complaining) and pretty much all that happened was a bunch of scrapes. Just use them for sliding, not pounding. |

I'm not saying that Mopar skids are bad but if I buy skids I want to save a little more money and get the stronger skid, that way I spend money on skids just once. No offense to anybody, Thanks for all of the input, everybody has been very helpful LR |
