Post subject:  About to lift.

I got my rustys lift a few weeks ago but i was waiting to get my replacement LCA before installing the lift, so now i have the new LCA, came in the mail today and I'll be installing the lift this weekend. Is there anything i need to know that will make things go alot smoother? I've heard of putting washers in rusty's rear shocks to prolong the life or maybe im wrong. And im looking for a level stance I'm not a big fan of the stock tilt forward, would putting the conduit nuts upfront and leaving the back the same level it off? Thanks.

I can not tell you much sounds like you did your home work
Yes a clevis lift will "level it out
The problem with the rear shocks is that they are not the right size ,bushing to small
also find a shop that will compress the struts and prings for you
I would find a "mom and pop" repair shop and offer $20 or so to have it done

and I also hope that you did not buy the "Crustys" adjustable arms
I had the rears on my TJ go out about a month ago ,threaded part wobbled loose and caused a bad knock
Now the fronts are bad and knocking
They did fix them at no charge I also had them shorten them by 1" so I could use the jamb nut but I will now have to do the front
not that big a deal but I still need to remove the LCA's and install the skycrapers ship to rustys then re-do it again just a p.i.t.a.
I would recomend going with fixed length lowers long story as to why

1-2 conduit nuts should level it out, pretty well.
LCAs or UCAs? If it's the lowers, The axle nut is 35mm, you'll need a deep-well socket for those. Also the other tools...spindle/ball joint puller kit and ball joint press kit. Make sure you get the longer version of the ball joint press kit (for trucks and 4x4's). The one I rented must have been for cars, as it was just too short and I wound up modifying it so I didn't get my deposit back for that, however, I've got the all the tools I need to put Al's upper arms in, if/when I get them. An impact driver is invaluable, if you're pressing ball-joints. I can't imagine turning that press with an end-wrench. Jackstands and a good metric tools set, and you should be pretty good to go. Anything I'm missing, guys?

Yea I will eventually be getting OME shocks for the rear but money is tight now and I'm hoping rustys will last me till have the the cash.

As for the LCA i had cracked my front passenger side arm (don't ask  ) So its the stock OEM mopar LCA, man those things are beefy.

Im hoping it should be pretty easy to install with the front suspension already taken apart while installing the lift, but with my first time doing any work on a car like this, hey anything can happen.

oh yeah, spring compressors, or as mentioned, take the struts somewhere and have them done. The shocks that I got with my Rusty's kit (last months) had the bushings to hold them in place so they don't rattle around like some early buyers experienced. I can't say anything about how they hold up though, since I didn't use them. I kept the DT8000s that I got with the RRO OTT budget kit, last year. I would think they'd be good enough to last until you can afford some OMEs or Ranchos, though.

I still have the rusty's rear shocks on mine RQuarte, and they are as good as stock. You need to find a steel sleeve for the upper shock mount that don't swallow your mounting bolt. The sleeve in the upper bushing is a size or two too big for the bolt, and you can't tighten the upper mounting bracket tight enough to keep it from rattling.I'm with Jason on taking your strut and new springs to a local shop.If they are like our shop, they will have a wall mounted strut compressor, and will make short and safe work of it.

Yea Ill defiently be taking it to a shop, thankfully theres a couple 4x4 shops locally that shouldn't charge me an arm and a leg. I'm pretty much set on the lift i have an idea of everything that i need and what each part entails, my main concern is replacing the LCA. Dje Ryu, you said something about a balljoint press kit? Is the LCA similar to the UCA where it should unbolt and come lose with a couple hammer hits? Or am i totally wrong?

No, it should come off that way. the puller kit just made it easier. I used a press kit because I replaced th oem ball joints with the Moog K3199s. If you're re-using the stockers, you shouldn't need the press kit.

Make sure you get an alignment when everything is done. Mine tracked fairly well but, the guy I always go to for tires and alignments said it was WAY off after I did mine so even if it feels good, get it checked.

Lowe's, Home Depot, etc... electrical dept... 2inch conduit lock nuts. They fit most of the struts for our kjs. Do a little looking in the tech section and you can find out exactly how it's done.
