I have the Firestone Destination ATs, with over 27000 on them I am down to 8/32s of tread left so wear is real good. Rides/handles good, not any more noise than stock, went to 245 70s and no real change in mileage either. NOW in real sticky mud they will fill up fast. But other than that they are doing great just wish they would wear out so I can go a little BIGGER Tom |

I've been running these for the past 25,000 miles and I HATE them! If you drive in snow - do NOT buy these tires. My mileage dropped about 2mpg and I can barely keep my KJ going in a straight line. Half of the tires are already gone with only 25,000 on them and regular rotations. My alignment was done after these were put on, so I know it's not that. With the stock tires it would drive like a dream! DO NOT buy these tires! |

I just got rid of these tires destination a/t's and upgraded to wrangler mt/r's. Had 40k on them and still had 6-7/32 left on them. I'd say they wear pretty good. Only rotated them twice in the 40k miles. They suck in the mud, not too good in the snow. I think they're 10x better than the goodyear sra's the liberty comes with. I'd say go with the m/t's just my opinion sine i love the aggressive look of a mud terrain. Just remember mud terrains are noisey and gas mileage goes down. I think the bad booty look makes up for it though. |

Maybe I was just spoiled by the OEM Goodyear SR-A's. I was getting around 19mpg and they went 52,000+ miles with probably another 5,000 left on them. The only reason I changed them when I did was because winter was aproaching and I needed better tread to get through an Upstate NY snowy season. I have actually considered going back to the SR-A's because I actually liked them. My only fault with those tires was that they tended to slip on the road tape they use at intersections when it rains. My biggest concern with this was snapping the driveshaft upon the tires grabbing the pavement. I thought they performed pretty well in the snow once they were "broken in". Call me crazy, or maybe I just got a good set. The other tires I've considered are the Goodyear Fortera Triple-Tread <Click Link |

Glad you liked the Goodyears SavageUrge, you could give me a whole truck load of them and I could only think of one thing to do with them, throw them on brush piles and burn them! Firestones so much better for me but to each his own |

I'm looking for a good highway tire but also something to wheel with out here in the Nevada desert, also I work in the Sierra's so I need a good snow tire. The mountians are hard packed dirt and rocky the valley's are sandy and soft. |

Hey Richrail....I work at an independent Tire and Auto Repair shop, and our mainline brand of tires are Cooper.Have'nt owned a set of ST's,but do have the ATR's on my libby now.The personal opinions from our customers on the ST's have been positive, but thats comming from guys that do a lot of hardcore wheeling, and don't mind the short lifespan and road noise. As expected, these tires will wear a little quicker on the highway and yield more noise than AT's.The Cooper Discover ATR IMO offers an agressive tread design making them good offroad, but ride really smooth and reasonably quiet. Not because we seel them, but dollar for dollar,I've been very happy with them. I think I am the only person - ever - on this board to actually admit to liking, or at least not minding the stock Goodyear SR-A tires. Like I said, maybe I got some good ones..? I don't know but I don't go off-road so that could have something to do with it. I'm strictly on-road. I don't want to hijack this thread so I'm going to start a new one in the tires section asking people why they don't like them. |

read tirerack.com reviews |

The reviews tell me that 2 out of 3 people didn't like these tires. One doesn't state why and the other is either lying about his driving style, or had a very screwed up vehicle. How do 2 people get an average of roughly 70,000 miles out of a tire, but he only got 25,000? Something smells funny here...My experience was first rate with them. The reviews are sparkling for the Firestone Destination A/T's, yet my real-world experience with them is a nightmare. Snow? Not if you value your life! I was going in a straight line and lost COMPLETE control of my vehicle for no good reason and ended up taking two other cars with me. That was driving in light snow in heavy traffic. I bet I was the only one with those tires! So what can we learn from this? I've learned not to ever trust another review from Tirerack.com. I've also realized that this site being somewhat off-road biased, is going to rate a tire poorly if it is only designed for on-road use. The Jeep Cherokee owner who got 91,000 miles out of a set rated them quite highly - read that review - sounds exactly like a review I would write. It's based solely on surface road driving, Hmmm, coincidence...I don't think so. I don't mean to sound rude. I'm just ranting at no one in particular because it's late, I'm tired and my schedule is totally out of whack due to my thankless job!! |

Richrail, Consider the General Grabber AT2. TireRack.com has good reviews from a few people in the southwest/west. I live in Indiana and love these tires. They are M+S rated for mud and snow. They're a good tire for both on- and off-pavement driving, and run about $30 less per tire than the BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A. I run them at 20 psi in dirt, sand, and gravel, and they've gotten me through places that guys on Destination A/Ts lost traction. They're not good in deep mud, but because that's not in your operating terrain, it shouldn't matter. |

I will second this. I have Grabber AT2 255/70's on my truck and drove them all over Texas, New Mexico, Colorado and even Oklahoma at the beginning of this year, when all of the roads were getting closed from heavy snow and ice, and they did fantastic!!! They are great on rocks and not too terrible on the street. I think they are more of an aggressive all terrain, without the total mileage suck of a mud terrain. More of a middle ground. |

Very good all around tire. I have a CRD so OEM size and warranty dictate 225/75/R16. The ATRs were about the only good tire with decent tread that I could find in this size. Quiet on highway, good grip in water, snow and mud. Good wear. I'm still looking for a good summer tire in my size to replace the junk STs. (2 flats already on the STs in the first month I had the CRD). My tire guy recommended these ATRs and he was right as usual. Said to run them for the Winter. If I don't like 'em, he'll take 'em back. But if I keep them, I owe him a case of beer. So, I guess I'm going to have to bring him a case of beer. |
