The responses to my thread on 265s has got me to thinking about this size as an alternative. Is anybody running these? Why did you choose 'em over the 265s (I figure the diameter is pretty much the same)? What extra stuff was needed over & above a regular 2 1/2" lift? Sorry for loads of questions Thanks |

Pretty much anything over a 30" tire will need some trimming up in the fog light access door area, and when you get up into the 31 - 32" range you'll also need to do something with the pinch weld. Guess it all depends on how much you love the plastic trim on your Jeep |

There is a tire section that will probably have more info on the 235/85's. I think it would be a better choice over the 265's. The 235/85's run taller than the 265 but are slightly narrower which I think would allow them to stuff into the wheel wells better and possibly keep them away from the sway bar on the front when using stock rim backspacing. They will be the next tire size I run on my KJ. (on whichever one doesn't end up SFA'd) You will definately need to do some trimming to fit them w/out rubbing. Check out that tire section for more info. |

Send a PM to moose. He ran them for a while on his KJ. |

I'd run them again too, if I get another KJ. They were NICE, but you will have to remove some plastic where it rubs and adjust the bumpstops (or live with the noise when you stuff a big MT up into the rear wells!). The Timberline MT's are a true 32", and E rated, so I got 2" out of them over the stock tire (1.5 from size, .5 from sidewall non-flex) and I think they were great off road (plus you can get them for about $130/each installed)

Thanks for the pics Moose. When running that tire size will the spare fit on the stock location and is there any problems with its additional weight on the spare mount? ETA: It appears from the pics like you have the same tire size on the spare. Any problems with the back window opening, getting to the trailer hitch, etc.? Did you use wheel spacers? |

I'm also interested in these (I figure I have about 6 months left on the MTR's) - however I have Moab 16x8 rims and the tire charts say the 235/85's need a max 7" rim. (although the same charts say a 245/75 - should be on a max 7.5" rim) Has anyone tried putting them on 8" rims? |

Rotating the stock mount I'm told give a little more clearance and adding some washers to the top studs may also help if you have a clearance problem. |

Thanks for all the info. I'm sure this must be wrong, but Moose, you don't list a lift in the mods in your sig - you can't be running those 85s unlifted surely |

Did you use wheel spacers? 4 washers on the top two lugs and it clears fine - your results may vary The hitch is as bad as ever. Maybe worse. Take the spare off to get something hooked up, then put it back on... |

The Renny had a Frankenlift and an extra rear spring isolator. I think you could use any 2.5-3" lift though... |

I have the 235x85 toyo open country a/t's, they are pretty quiet good tires so far. I have rubbing up front fog light area, pinch weld and a little on the sway bar. My rear glass won't lift but I'm going to try the spacers. Overall I like them, changes the gearing, so far with the CRD gearing is still ok, just not as high of RPM's as stock. Mileage if I account for the 10% difference in spedo and odometer readings is about the same. |

Gearing was great with the manual. Can't say about the auto, it feels under powered to begin with |
