| Post subject: | POLL:Concerning MT/R's, Moabs, and I'd like all to chime in! |
Ok, so I have 5 like new, unscratched MOAB wheels and 4 used, 1 new MTR from Goodyear. They look good! Questions, and I'd like as many chimes as possible.... 1) I mounted the wheels. Maybe I'm just used to the smooth ride of the stockers, but the rumbling, supposed lower gas mileage, and vibration makes me want to put the stock 17's with wranglers back on. Do a lot of you ride with that combo on a daily basis as a daily driver? Any undesirables from this? (low mpg, noise, wear, etc) 2) Should I keep them, or sell them? I don't plan on wheeling that often, but I do like to go mudding, beach hopping, and camping from time to time. Would it be better to keep them in the corner or just sell them and put all terrains on the stockers? 3) I have the Rusty's coil lift. My turning radius seems to have gone to poo with this wheel and tire. I could whip the Lib into really tight turns, but now I feel like I am rubbing now. Do others have this problem? I was under the impression that with the lift you could throw on the moabs/ mtrs with no loss of anything. |

I have both 5 245/75 MTR's on my renny rims and 4 streets on some XJ rims I got off ebay. I love having both. If I am going wheeling I have a nice set of lugs to use that are not worn and around town tire that get good mpg. Keep them and have the best of both worlds. Plus with the second set you keep your off roads cherry and don't waste the rubber on the asphalt. |

Pack them up and ship them to me (I pay shipping), the moabs with the MT/Rs on them, and you'll be passing on the good karma. Crazy, but hey, you never know until you ask. |

Crazy, but hey, you never know until you ask. Honestly, I would, but I have our first child (a baby girl) on the way in August, and if the good fortune bestowed upon me means it would be a little easier to get what we need for her, and my wife, well I wouldn't be a good father if I let that pass. |

If they are E load rated tires from a rubicon I say get rid of them and get something with a lower load rating. I put 33 inch MTrs on my rubicon in a D load rating and it drives much better. When I had the liberty with the E load rated mtrs on there it drove ok. Try different tire pressures also, you may find a setting that works. Its a lifted jeep so its going to have a different feel to it. Hope this helps you in your choice. |

I've had my MT/Rs on now for about 35k miles and I hadly even notice them now. I would say to give the MT/Rs about 5k miles and then make a decision. If at that time you still don't like them for everyday travel, then put some ATs on the stock rims. Either way, keep the MT/Rs. A couple of years down the road when that wheel/tire combo costs around $2k, you'll regret getting rid of them. OR ... you could send them to me (one new dad to another) |

If you have garage space and an impact wrench (or go buy one), keep the stock tires wheels on and replace when you plan to go off-road. Switch them back to the stocks when you finish off-roading. I was doing that, but I have a 1-car garage and it is full. No space on the sides to quickly and easily do the swap. |

Im suprised no one suggests that I get new allterrains for the stockers in order to have the best of both worlds..... hmm. |

Keep them!! I drive 26miles per day each way to work. The only complaint i have about them is gas mileage sucks. I avg. about 15mpg. Other than that i love them. A little noisey but nothing compared to dunlop mud rovers. I love the look of my kj with them on there. I had a guy in jk do a touble take yesterday when he saw me go buy. I think the KJ looks like booty with a lift and stock sized tires. |

No worries, I can definately understand. I'm a father of twins myself, so I'm always trying to fix something beyond repair or find a good used deal to keep above water (so to speak). My real fear is when my boys get older and start to really eat food, I'm going to have to find someone to go halves on a cow more than once a year. Oh, and my mantra to a new parent when it gets frustrating, and believe me it will, just remember "Someone did this for me." |

Here's to go... Keep the MOAB's . Pop a set of ATR's on them, in say a 245/70/16...and get the best of both worlds. Throw the MTR's on your old wheels and Bobs your uncle. Sell em...keep em.??? What ever. |

Put some 245/70R17 Destination AT's on the 17's for the street, and keep the MTR's and Moabs for off roading. I've got the 245/65R17's on mine and they do great here in KY. They handle torrential rain, ice storms, snowy roads, gravel roads, and actually ride very well for an AT. They're not too heavy, so gas milage is pretty good, and they're a better price than a lot of the other choices out there. |

If noise and MPG are a concern then sell if traction and good looks rate higher than that then keep them We run MTR's on the stock Limited wheels with only OME lift and with some clever moving of the inner flair things and pinch pounding we only rub in the rear at very full stuff we did loose about 2-3 highway MPG and about the same in the city but the loose in mpg is due 90% to the taller tires we also have some noise at 30-35 mph but not real bad My wife likes the way the KJ looks ,bigger and better than 99.9% of the rest of the KJ in our part of town 1 of only 2 that I know of that are lifted Keep in mind about used tires they may have funny wear in that case they will make more noise than new ones |

You'll get used to them. And, you know what, with the MT/R on, whenever you get the urge, you'll know you can take that road anytime. With your street tires on, you might have to pass up the opportunity. |

Yeah, you get used to them. Mine are E load as well. I have'em at 45 psi. I run my MTr'S maybe 60% of the time. I can get about 18-20 mpg with them to and from work cause I drive real smart and I know where I will have to stop so I coast a good deal. I am getting spacers to get the tire off my sway and Al's a arm. You may have to do so to to get your full turn back. I use the At's when I know I will be doing a long road trip or when gas prices get too high. They have come back down so I have been running the mtr's plus I be wheelin a lot lately. The MTR's look a hell of a lot better than my 235/70 at's. Gotta wear them out so I can get 245/75's in those too! |
