Post subject:  BDS 2" lift kit

I've been interested in this kit, I just can't find many reviews for the KJ version. I also understand that this kit uses front strut extensions, What would the major difference be between the extensions or new front struts. I welcome your comments. THANKS!!!!

Maxium wheel size is 16". I have 17" so I guess I would have to also buy new rims.

I had this lift on my KJ, and I put on Mickey Thompson classic II wheels with BFG A/T's, it worked and I liked it. It turned out looking pretty much like the KJ they have shown. It didn't have the clearance the KJ's had with the Frankenlifts and the MTR's but it got me where I needed to go.

Hope this helps :)

Their are several reasons no one is chiming in here. The BDS Kit is similarly priced to the Rusty's lift kit, but the Rusty's kit comes with Old Man Emu front struts. IMO the front struts are the most important component on the lift. That's why nobody runs the BDS lift, Rusty's is just more bang for the buck.

1st..

Spencevans, please don't express you're opinion as everyone else's. I think the MAIN reason there were only a few replies is that fdems asked the question 4 hours ago and it's still before 10am for a huge portion of the L.O.S.T. populations.

2nd...

Rusty's lift does not come with actual OME shocks/struts unless you pay more for them.

That being said, here is the same response I posted at KJ Country to fdems question. If anyone in the MidAtlantic region that I've wheeled with thinks my BDS lift is sub-par, please feel free to chime in.

I'm using the BDS 2" kit on mine. I love it. I fit 245/75-16 MT/Rs with no problem at all. Ride is better than stock, and after 2 years of having it on, it's still the same height as when I just installed it.

Some of the other lifts give slightly more height, but to me the extra .5" wasn't worth the price.

I've had the thing in some pretty serious offroad situations with no problem at all against other libby's with frankenlifts.

here's a shot of the type of articulation this lift offers. All 4 tires still on the ground...

Gris, it has been noted by several people who bought the Rusty's lift that the struts are indeed OME struts and the original shocks are rusty's. When you pay more you get OME shocks.

hate to change the subject, but has anyone noticed that the wrangler they have (fdems original link) at the top banner says Rubokon? What's up with that?

You can still run with the 17"s, just drop to a 245/70 instead of 245/75. :D the problem there-in lies in finding a decent off-road tire in 245/70R17 (@30.5x9.5x17").

I do agree that if you were to do a cost comparison it would be more beneficial to go with the Rusty's system. I do own the BDS lift kit and have had great off-road experiences with it. The lift kit is solid and performs just as good as many other kits. My stock front struts eventually broke which pushed me into upgrading. I upgraded both the front struts and rear shocks to Rancho's. The springs and strut brackets are BDS.

Prior to my strut/shock upgrade I was running 265/70/16 Pathfinder AT's on stock wheels. I had to do a pinch weld adjustment but that was it. The lift kit got me through a lot of tough terrain.

After updating my front struts and rear shocks to Ranchos I also acquired some new Tires/Wheels. This is still with BDS springs and strut plates.

In all honesty though the Rusty's kit may be your best option. Unless your local shop is going to give you a good deal on the BDS kit, go with the Rusty's for similar costs.
