All, Good morning. I think that I understand what the ESP traction/stability control is SUPPOSE to do but I have not actually seen it (I am always in the driver's seat). The question that I have is, when in low range and opposite tires are in the air, what happens? Do the brakes apply to the spinning wheels? Does in require a heavy right foot? Thanks in advance for the responses. -Dr. Dave |

Yes the brakes apply to the spinning wheels, the amount of throttle input depends on the situation. If you are just going throught a rut thats fairly level it wont take much at all, If you are trying to climb a mountain its gonna take more. I dont think its too bad though. More than adequate for the occasional excursion.. |

Jeger, Thanks for the input. I have not had the opportunity to test out the traction control myself enough yet. I have a buddy that has an older Range Rover with a similar system that works fairly well but, if used alot over an extended period, will overheat the ABS. This results in the system shutting down for a cool down. Has anyone experienced this with the KJ? -Dr. Dave |

The ESP doesnt work as good as it sounds on paper. But it does work. I noted extreme angles limit its function for some reason. Every time I get one side in the air and the other side on the ground, the ESP light comes on. |

Well, in 4LO you don't get a choice, and I was in that for a few hours before it decided to crap out for a few hours... |

heres my vid of the ESP in action again. it took stacking rocks and some throttle for a open diff 02 to climb the same wall. keep in mind im still running the stock wrangler ST's. to me the ESP has worked really well and is much better than having open diffs or worrying about a full locker in the rear. it does have its down falls so I still plan on eventually getting a ARB air locker for the 8.25 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4ZH3rEJKA0 |

Guys ESP works GREAT if more had come out to the off roaders expo you would have seen it in action With a bone stock fresh off the lot wrangler jk X model we could climb an obsticle that was deemed "locker required" even guys with 33's and 4" of lift could not do it but if you have esp and just go slow and easy you make it right up and over I do not have a rig with ESP but after seeing what I did I would buy 1 in a second and knowing how the system works I would put Tru Trac's front and rear the very next day |

LOL I also believe the ESP/Tru-Trac would be the perfect setup. It would be very capable offroad while retaining good on-road manners. I money was less of an issue I would have done it already. ALAK The light comes on when the traction control or other parts of the ESP are working. Press the ESP button to get rid of auto throttle reduction, or put it in low range...if you are lifting wheels you should be in low range anyhow. SNOWBLOWER In situations where you want speed and 4WD....mud, sand, etc. It is best to press the button, But the rest of ESP still works. I like it. |

Well Jason & Jegar, I agree 100% that ESP is a great poor man's locker. It gives every '06+ the ability to run with the locker crowd. However, I think you've heard my complaints with the 6spd already, so I wont bring them up again. DCX just has to make sure it's tuned correctly. |

Im talking about the bad light that says it doesnt work. ESP/BAS or something. Because everytime Im in mud, water or NOT ROCKS, it doesnt work worth crap. Like the other day, the true open diff really showed when I could have easily escaped with Lockers. I've been trying to figure out how to take the ESP out. In honesty, its good for STOCK Wheelin. Anything more than the stock liberty can handle it inhibits its 4x4 ability. I mean, in the JK, when that light is on, its completely off. In KJ's, its like a babysitter. |

I was checking a Mopar site abou ESP, with the jeep off try turning the key to the on position hold ESP down until dash lights go out or 3-10 seconds, then start jeep. I then went out to see if I could spin the tires on a dirt road, didn't seem like it was on, but yet I didn't try a power turn or anything like that. Any one know if this really turns ESP off? |

There is a good video in the CRD section that shows a bit how it works... |
