trans cooler 'UPDATE'

has anyone installed a trans cooler on the liberty?do you have pics?is it difficult?

I had the dealership install mine on an 07 limited. warentee stuff and all...
They said no big deal, do it all the time. I would definately investigate ALL concerns and know what I was doing before tackling anything to do with the tranny. My big question was how much of an increase in fluid level should I allow for the heat exchanger and the lines?

thanks.i just try to do things on my own before i take it somewhere.i hate paying for labor.

I hear ya, but when it is on a critical system like the tranny, i like warentees.

do you know if the o4 sports had them from factory?

Too be honest, I've yet to see an automatic sport without one. It should be positioned out front. Should be (from engine) Rad, Condensor (which is has a large surface area like the rad) and the tranny cooler (Which sits a little lower) If you have the tow package, you will also have a tiny little cooler off to the drivers side for the power steering. Unless they changed it. I know 06+ had some changes.

ok i took the front plastic grill off before.i saw the small cooler you are talking about.is this adequate?i saw B&M's cooler for 50 bucks.is it worth the change.it looks pretty easy to install.i cut away a rubber piece to expose the lines from the tranny and both top and bottom are right there.i tow about 1500 lbs (quad and trailer) a few times a month about 80 miles of highway driving.i bought the truck with 40,000 and change last year.i put about eight thousand on it.i have not touched the tranny fluid yet.i know this truck served time as a rent a car.i also noticed that it was in a front end collision as various little tabs are broke in the front that hold the bumper.

If you are only pulling 1,500 then you might not need to worry about it, unless u climb alot of hills. With the factory install u get the Crankcase Oil coller, Power Steering Cooler and the Tranny Cooler, at least with the '07's. That gives them about 5,000 lbs pulling capacity with the class III hitch. The dealership when i was looking to buy had a limited without any of the coolers and said the hitch alone would handle 3,000 without the coolers needing to be installed.

Might have only been a sales job. I took the one with all the coolers figuring it was there and little to no difference in price once i got finished with them.

i think i might do it anyway.the factory cooler looks kind of small.it looks pretty easy to install.i always like doing things to my cars.i came from a mustang background where i was buying things every week.im doing a tuneup anyway with a fluid change too.

well i couldnt resist ,i ordered a TCI UNIVERSAL cooler from JEGS.55 shipped.looks easy enough to install.does anyone know which line goes where?

It shouldn't matter which way the fluid flows.

I didnt know they had an engine oil cooler. Must be new for 07'. I dont have the tow package on mine though. I was looking at installing an RX-7 cooler, but I had no way to hook it up. I wonder how the 07' hooks up and maybe I can buy some parts out of the Mopar catalog to adapt.

I never seen the reason for a power steering cooler. Althought I guess with smaller resivours they needed it?

well just an update.i ordered a TCI trans cooler from JEGS.by the way,it was at my house in 2 days.the cooler installed vey easily.i just took off the plastic front grill and unbolted the bracket that holds the hood latch.only 6 bolts i believe.i then cut out the old cooler.the new cooler installed with mounts supplied and that was it.hooked the hoses up and no leaks.
