| Post subject: | Part Time 4x4 light |
So, last night, I was a little stuck, and put our 04 Liberty into four wheel drive, and the light did not come on. It was definitely in 4x4, so I continued to get un-stuck. I promptly removed it form 4x4, and I could tell it released. I figured maybe the bulb was out, and drove home. When I got home, I turned the key off, and then back on to run a bulb check, and the bulb lit up. (keep in mind the shifter is still in 2wd mode) so then I started the Liberty, and the light is on. When I shift into 4wd, the part time light goes out. wtf!! I also tried 4lo, and the 4lo light comes on, and turns off properly. I let it sit all last night, and think about what it had done, and this morning, it is still bass ackwards. Has anyone run across this problem before? I am very mechanically savey, as I am a Diesel technician for Ford, with access to alldata, so any help with some insight would be appreciated. Thanks, Jarrod |

Yes, there is a sensor on the side of the tcase that goes out.. Not a big problem.. |

yea man, I have that same problem. while using 4hi my light goes out, and when I put it back into 2wd it goes on. I just ignored it because I heard it is only a switch that only showes what position you are in and it is not causing any other issues. After a few mins or a few hours, it depends it does go back to normal. |

That's exactly right. It's not a sensor that affects the operation of the t-case. It simply senses the position of the t-case & if it finds the t-case in the 4X4 position, it turns on the light... & that is all it does, turn on the light. No worries. |

I had a problem where the shifter positions were out of whack, and the 2wd position made the part-time light come on, and all the other 4x4 modes where bumped back one position. The 4x4 always engaged per what 4x4 mode light was on, be part-time, full-time, etc. I was quoted $480 at the dealership in parts and labor to fix it, but since it wasn't really a problem (all modes worked as gauges indicated, but not in correct position), I figured I'd wait. I went camping a few days later and used 4x4 for a few miles and it fixed itself just as mysteriously as it malfunctioned. Way weird |
