so yesterday i went in the trails near my house which i have been to maybe about 3 times before. im about to get to the road and i see what looked like a little bit of mud, boy was i wrong. im going all of a sudden as soon as i start driving my truck immediately sinks on the drivers side about a little bit over my arb bumper. it was the wettest slimiest mud ever, i sank so fast because it was black earth. the worst part of all this was the smell of the mud and all the muskitos. Me and my freind tried everything we could to get out. at the end we had to call a tow truck who called one of his freinds with a jeep to get me out ...65$ later my jeep was free :D ... 1 thing that i wasn't sure of was how the other jeep pulled me out, he attached 2 huge hooks onto my rear axle and was tugging it pretty hard. is that the right way to do it cuz to me it felt like my hole axle was going rip right off of the car :S
heres some pics...

If you don't have any rear tow points then yea thats the way to pull you out. You gotta be careful, it's not real good for your axle.

mud sucks I hate the stuff but for some reason I end up covered in it almost every time I go out wheelin?
the tow bill sucks too but i have seen worse ,$250 just to get a Z71 out of the mud
granted he had to drive through some real bad stuff to get to him but still
we followed the tow rig and offered to pull the guy for $100 cash but all he had was a credit card and besides he was being a HUGE jerk about the whole situation

lessons learned
1 get a rear tow point
2 NEVER go wheelin alone
and for the guy above
3 when stuck you should be nice to every one who is NOT stuck

As said above and said many times on LOST, always have tow points when wheeling. If you don't have them, get them.

Same goes for wheeling alone. Never do it unless you want to experience getting stuck or broken down and you are out in the middle of nowhere waiting possibly hours or days.

Good example was a few winters ago when FOUR of us were going to do a trail and found out, after we were on it, that it was only for snowmobiles when snow was around. Two got immediately stuck as they were trying to turn around. One tried to pull one out but couldn't. It took two of our KJ's to pull one out. Lucky there were four of us at the time.

At least you got it out.....
I am getting a rear hook at the dealer on Monday (along with all 4 factory skids-if they can get the engine/front suspension skid as they are changing the part and cannot get it as of yet). I would like to get both front hooks, but the sport does not have the holes in the bumper. You have to cut them out, and I do not want to butcher it.
The rear tow hook is around $70 and it bolts on the left next to the gas tank I believe.

With all those trees around you think you'd have been able to sample the mud with a stick before you climbed in it. LOL. Old Jeeper trick #1.

funny you say that my dad just just told me that, hes like next time get out and check the mud with a stick. as for the rear tow hooks is there only 1 or 2, i tried looking fast fast for a thread on it but no luck. hmm and as for the front i got an arb bumper so are the 2 holes on the bottom of it sufficient enough to be pulled by ???

if i had a winch would i have been able to get out does any1 think??...how would you if possible run the cable to pull you out from the back because there was no trees in the front of the jeep only back :S ?

Yes those are shackle tabs on the bottom of the ARB,I've used them a few times.
Yes having a winch would have saved your butt, but with nothing to attach to you would also need to use something like this----http://www.pullpal.com/in_use.html-----It's called a pulpal and comes in handy if your alone with nothing to attach a winch to.

That does not always work down here in south LA
we WALKED across a dried up pound looking for a trail and found it
now we did not even get mud on our shoes and could see that it was drie like a foot down through the cracks
when my buddy tryed to drive his Toyota pu across he sunk to the frame rails

If it drives good then Im sure the rear axle is fine. Its not going to just fall out, it does hold up the Jeep ya know. Its got some fairly good mounts with good bolts, so its not going anywhere..

I would clean everything up good and check the rear suspension out though.. Check all the mounts and make sure nothing is bent and such..

Your later post took the smart booty question right out of my mouth. ARB and no winch?

That PulPal thing is great have seen them on tv. You can pull with the points on the arb. in fact you should. use a snatch block on a buddies tow hitch infront of you (or the PulPal) and bring your cable back to the tow points on your ARB and slowly pull it out. Thats what they are there for.

OFF TOPIC: The skid plate thing.

I have an '07 and the stealer was supposed to put on a full set of skids for me per our deal. That is when i found out about the new part number. I have been told by MANY different dealers that it is because of a "Re-Design due to the ball joint issue." Yeah right and that they have just changed vendors and thus the new part number. Anyway, I was told that the NEW part number was not even avaliable for ordering by the stealerships until 7/23/07. SO I am still waiting on my Stealership to come through.

I got tired of waiting cuz I have the tranny skid in my garage (Picked it uo to keep them from selling it to somebody else while i wait) and it shares the mounting bolts for the front plate. I Just orderd one for an 06 from a stealership in Wisconsin (go figure) and it arrives on monday 7/9.

50.00 bucks plus shipping. I am going to mount it soon. IF for some reason it wont work on my '07, then it will be for sale and I will continue to wait for thr "New" one.

I will start a new thread for this if needed. I just put on my OEM gas tank skid yesturday. piece of cake with a floor jack and a few zip ties for the trailer hitch.

Ouch, you were stuck good weren't you

Let me see if I got this right, you called for a tow truck who then called for a second Jeep to tug you out? I hope the other Jeep owner wasn't the one who charged you $60. Even if you did have tow points tugging can easily break stuff. I would have tried winching you out first.

I use a hook in my rear hitch receptacle as a tow point and a pair of stock tow hooks up front. It sounds like what the "stealership" wants to sell you is a factory rear tow hook which is off to one side. At the moment the only skid plate I have is the front one (more to follow).

Myself I'd never go wheelin solo without a winch. Can't you mount one on your ARB bumper?
By the way, I like the look of those ARB bumpers on a Libby.
