I'm running that lift and I dont really have any problems with it.On the rear shocks you will need to find smaller steel sleeves that will fit tighter on the top bolt. That is if you get the Rusty's longer shocks.Oh...and don't worry about all the bashin' and flamin' you'll get from most of these people on here,it'll only last for a little while. I was really, REALLY thinking about the spacer lift, and I absolutely understand about money being tight, but I bit the bullet and saved my money and ordered the full Rusty's coil lift. Placed the order less than an hour ago (about noon local time). The shipping is the real killer......$80!!! |

Just get the spacer lift and be done, I got it and no complaints here. I don't expect to have any either. oh the rear shocks suck, don't buy them. Get some ranchos. |

Well medic9402....are you planning on adding a bunch of conduit nuts to level this thing out?I'd bet you will, and in doing so you'll just be creating sharper driveline angles, and putting that upper balljoint that much closer to your coilspring. So in the end,the OTT lift is not so bad.I've been ASE certified in steering and suspension for most of the 25 years I have working on vehicles, and it's common sence that the more you lift IFS the more you risk having problems. So if your going to add some conduit nuts to max out the front to be level with the rear,it just don't make sence to spend more money to do it.Oh....and 04liberty.....sorry for ramblin',but this debate always gets my attention. And as Sport said.....No complaints...and don't expect any. LilredLibby... Yeah, I already have the conduit nuts in my hand.. I have all the respect in the world for anyone that knows more than me...........and that's a LONG list. Generally speaking, what kind of problems might be common with this set-up? To anyone running this suspention: Have you had problems with it? If so, what??? Thanks guys! |

I'm not really sure I was trying to say that I know more than you, just trying to say that by adding a clevis lift your putting CV angles at a sharper degree, and lowering the upper A-Arm closer to the upper balljoint. If anyone disagrees with that, then there must have been a steering and suspension class that I missed.I'm pretty openminded, and will listen to anything that might prove otherwise. 04liberty I will state the facts 1) struts and shocks and coil springs all go bad struts and shocks go out befor springs but never the less springs will go bad ,sag and loose strength wich causes a bad ride 2) spacers placed with in the strut set up will put a preload on the spring causeing the strut to work over time spacers will not affect the rear If you have over 40K on your KJ then chances are very good that the struts and shocks are bad knowing that the struts and shocks are bad and will need to be replaced also knowing that spring will go out why not replace them all at once? Yes a spacer lift cost less to buy at the time but in the end you will end up buying a spring lift any way you go LilredLibby You claim to be a mechanic I dont know one way or another but if you are then you would know that what I said is true if you have 25 years experance as a mechanic then you will also be over 40 years old so you should also realize as I have that most of the time when people post up about spacer lifts they are young and as stated every time short on money yet you steer them to a cheep lift that will in the end cost them more than a spring lift I feel that this is being irresponsible I say give them the facts and let them decide because while it is easy for you to repair your rig most of these guys will have to pay some one in the end dont take this the wrong way but I hate it when I see older more experanced guys telling some one "sure that will work" with out telling them the possable down sides |

I would say that I think part of the problem is that when a OTT style lift is used then nothing more is done, ie replacing the shock/strut spring etc. While any modification puts extra stress on all components when most of us do a spring lift it is with upgraded shocks/struts etc. Any stock suspension is pretty much junk in 35/40000 miles (shocks/struts here) so someone puts on an OTT with 30/40000 miles there will be problems. I agree with Jason in that most are younger and want a quick fix to look like everyone else but it is not always as simple as that. Ron has upgraded his struts so he may not or will not have the same problems as someone just putting on the stock suspension. I know too long of an answer but ................................ Tom |

Ron No need to argue, I agree. But, there's nothing wrong with a civilized debate...it would probably help the majority of us Jeepers. |

Your right, but I just feel it's becomming an "uncivilized debate".I have alot of respect for everyone on this forum and just because one person calls me "Irresponsable",and another I think is calling me a "Know it all",then it's probably time to end the lift debates.I was only replying to a question, and was'nt trying to persuede anyone into doing the wrong thing. Ron, I was certainly NOT calling you a "know it all". Please don't think I was. I honestly ment what I said, I have all the respect in the world for anyone who is more knowlegable on a subject than I am, and will certainly consider anything they have to say. I was not being sassy or off the cuff and if it came across that way, I am sorry. That was not my intention. P.S. My handle is "medic 9402" not "mechanic9402" I am much better at stablizing people than vehicles.. |

| Post subject: | Rusty's spacer lift |
I have been looking into lift kits for over a year now and came to the conclusion that a spacer lift for me would give me the same results as a coil lift. As for needing new struts and shocks at 78000 miles I have never replaced anything on my liberty except oil and filters that includes tires. I was at Camp Jeep two years ago speaking to the engineers that built the liberty and they told me that if well maintained no major repairs should need to be done until around 125000 miles. This is my second jeep my first was a 2001 wrangler with 99000 miles and only did oil and filters on that one too. I take my lib offroad at least 6-8 times a year it has been to Camp Jeep,Paragon.jeep Jamboree and local spots with no harm except scrapes in the underbody. Not all Jeeps will perform as well as mine has and sometimes it's the driver not the Jeep! At paragon we were crossing a creek I was fully stock no skids went through 36" water no problem but the wrangler behind me fully loaded,lifted,tires.lockers.etc.etc got stuck and I had to back into the creek and pull him out he saw that all the gear he bought was not the answer but how he drove his Jeep. |
