I had some 10w-30 laying around so I used it... According to motoralldata 10w-30 is okay but 5w-30 is preferred. Now i'm starting to wonder if it's really okay... Does imminent death await?

You'll be fine,I run 10w-30 in the summer and 5w-30 in the winter, done this since my KJ was new,no problems.

same here, 10W-30 synthetic. 5W-30 evaporates too quickly at altitude. We just got brand new trucks at work that require 5w, and we have to add 1 quart every 2-3weeks depending on mileage, but then again these trucks run almost 24/7 with most being at idle.

How about the mobil 1 0w40? I hear this is the absolute best that mobil 1 has to offer with more pao's then any of its other oils. Does anyone think this would be a problem? Maybe warranty issues?

you shouldn't have any warrenty problems with the brand of oil you use as long as you change it with in recommended times you'll be fine

on another note I'm surprised JJ hasn't put his .02 in on this thread about Amsoil  :P

What I am specifically refering to though is a 0w40 weight oil. My '06 specifies 5w30. Would a 0w40 be too thick or thin? Warranty issues with the weight (not the oil manufacturer. Any certified oil will suffice if changed within recomendations)?
Does amsoil carry a 0w40 JJ? If not, what do you suggest...sticking with 5w30? I just want the best protection I can buy. It scares me a little that mobil 1 may well now be a type III and not a pao based type IV, but who knows really? Amsoil is a sure bet type IV, so I am tempted to make the switch to Amsoil. So, any impressions on a 0w40? Anyone?

The Series 2000 0W30 amsoil is one of their best oils. If you want a 0 weight, Use it.

I agree prior to my Libby I owned a '95 5.2 L or for us old schoolers 318 cid. from day one I used Amsoil 0W-30 as per Amsoil recommendations. This is what I have had in my '02 since July of '06 once again per Amsoil reccomendations. My Libby still seems to be a very HAPPY JEEP. Now for full discloser I have been an Amsoil dealer since 1976 :!:
I did not become an Amsoil dealer to sell the product  I did so I could have the best oil on the market in my vehicle at my cost. If you want the same deal just contact me :!: I'm not in this for the profit just for the GOOD OIL

LEAD :D FOLLOW :P or GET OUT of THE WAY   8) :-)r :-)r :-)r

Not really in it for the profit either, that is why I sell at My cost. I got into Amsoil to offset the costs of running it and to be able to offer it up on the various forums at discounted prices. Anyone can become a "dealer" for $30 a year and get the same prices and or earn commisions on whatever you buy or sell. But you can also get the best prices by buying Through me w/out becoming a dealer. Yes I do make a small commission on my sales and it is almost enough to keep up w/ the product I donate to various events and cover my personal use in 4 vehicles. And if you live local enough to me I also will help you to install it w/out any extra costs.
