| Post subject: | Rusyts Lift Installed! but its leaning *with Picture |
Well guys I got the lift installed yesterday. The worst part was driving around and looking for a place to do my stuts, after 3 towns and 150 miles i got them done. Ok so after I put it together yeaterday it looked great, I got close to 2.75 inches of lift. I was happy with that. I took it out driving and everything seems fine, no clunking, it rides smooth so I thought I did great. Today I had to go behind it and when I looked at the back of the jeep I could see that its leaning to the drivers side some (i didn;t notice it yesterday when i was checking it out after the install). the left rear tire was a little low on air so I added some and it straighten out some but it is still leaning. I made sure to get on even ground and i could still see it. Also the front is leaning a little to the passenger side which I didn't notice yesterday either. Is that normal or should I call rustys and get new rear spring and front spring? Does anybody have any ideas what the problem would be? Im sure i put everything back just fine. Is it normal? |

Make sure eveything is "seated properly"...springs are turned correctly and sit in the perch... |

agree with Darby dont think the springs are seated right or did you make sure you got the front down into the clevis the same amount on both sides, check those things first |

Yes, inspect your struts. That company may not have seated it properly on one of them. Clevis install could be off on one side. For the rear: Do you have a heavy load in the cargo area on the drivers side? Check your shocks. Are they both installed the same direction? Springs seated properly? Do a measurement for all four corners. |

also -- loosen and retighten all sway bar bolts - if one side was up when tightened - it could induce a lean. |

I got a chance to look under the back and I seen where on the passenger side the rubber spacer at the top is folded a little right under where the springs starts. I think that might be reason it sits a little higher on that side. Also yesyerday when I was tightning the bolts on the sway bar one of the driver side bolts had hard time going in. The sway bar itself was not binding the bolt. Tomorrow when I am going to retighten the sway bar bolts should I jack the jeep up or just tighten them on the ground? Also in the front I noticed that strut on the drivers side sits a little lower in the clevis but that is the side that is higher??????? any ideas?. Do you guys think that all the things I mentioned above could make it sit straight? Please give me some ideas, if i can't even it out i would be tempted to just throw the factory suspension back in. Could I just have a bad spring? im getting frustrated with this stuff. |

IIRC all KJ's are built to be about 1/4" to 1/2" lower in the front on the right(passengers)side. There was a thread on this topic,so just before I installed my lift I measured, and yep, almost 1/2" difference.Had something to do with correcting for the weight of the driver. If you have all new coils,I would drive it awhile before I got excited, cause new coils do take some time to sag and settle. I started a thread on this after my rusty's install. Mine was all over the place. It's gotten better since its settled. Currently my l/f is 1/2" lower than my r/f and l/r is 1/4" lower than the r/r. Pretty anoying. |

How did you guys mesure yours? from the ground to the top of the fender? |

I just measured mine in the back. From the top of the rear spring to the bottom on the passenger side its 10 inches, on the drivers side its 9 3/4 or so. Could it be that one spring is stiffer then the other? I will keep you guys posted and let you know tonight if I can fix it somehow. Please keep suggesting ideas. edit: here is the picture, I'll post some better ones later on.
I hate how it looks like that. |

just throwing it out there, might be leaning that way due to you adding extra weight of yourself on the drivers side is causing the springs to break it just a smidgen quicker then the other side. Go find a sumo wrestler and take him offroading? |

Getting a sumo wrestler around here could be also a problem |

It definitely leans...I would remove the rear springs and switch sides and check it again then do the same for the front. Which ever ones makes the difference I would ask Rusty's to replace that set of springs. |

Did you ever figure the leaning out? Mine was lifted with a Frankenlift yesterday and the right rear is 1/2" higher than the left rear. |

As far as where to measure for leaning: just make sure you measure on the same spot on both sides. It seems that if it is leaning it COULD affect handling some. Terry |
