Try searching the forum for discussions about skid plates Jason. There's already been a lot of discussion as to who's skid plates are better than others.

I understand that Mopar skid plates are okay however their transfer plate skid plate is rather light weight, you might want to spend a little more for something better.

All I have on my Sport is the front engine skid plate and boy has it taken a lot of hits (I disparately need a lift and bigger tires). Looking up from the bottom of my ride I think the transmission & gas tank are the next areas that need skid plates. Just last weekend I put a new dent in my gas tank

I have full stock skids with a home made Trany skid
I hope that you are not putting dents in your fuel tank it is made of HDPE
or plastic it MUST have a skid to go off road

I just had the stock skids on my old YJ and they did me just fine. Are the Mopar skids for the KJ comparable to the stock skids on my old YJ as far as durability?

Stock skids are OK until that ONE TIME  and you might wish you have the Super Skid for the tranny. If it hits just right, you will go nowhere and the fix will be expensive. Aftermarket Tranny and Sliders would be a better bet with stock engine and fuel tank skid.

I have had the weight of my jeep come down on the tranny skid
a few times.

High sided it on a log once.... CRASH

I thought for sure that it was going to be screwed up under there when I
got out to look.......

But the Mopar tranny skid has held. Not even the slightest of dent.

I wish it was wider, and will probably replace it because of this. But as far as it not holding up,
thats unfounded from my point of view. Its decent for sure.

I recommended to hardhittinz awhile back that for the budget minded that stock mopar skids and an All J superskid would be a good route. When I asked around, I was told the same thing. I was told that the Engine Skid was very stout, the tranny skid was a waste of materials and the transfer case skid was good as well.

If cost were no object, Skid row for sure.

my gas skid came in real handy, but now its got a dent and has a couple stones stuck between it and the gas tank. but anyways, my stock skids have taken some beatings and are still ok, but i can see their weak points in some areas if your going to be doing some risky stuff

I have the mopar skids and Ive never had any trouble out of them.

The first time you come down hard on that tranny skid its gone though, Ive seen that first hand. The gas skid is the same way but Ive never hit it that hard, just slid over it.

I have seen a mopar trany skid destroyed and not even get a scrach ,came down on a real green log and not that hard
I dont under stand why people complain about the fuel tank skid
they are made just like the one on a TJ and my TJ has some good dents and dings but as I stated above the ful tank is plastic and can flex so as long as you dont rip through thr steel you will be fine
how ever it is bent real bad you would be advised to drop it and knock the dent out because it can rub a hole through the tank
I have seen this happen once
