| Post subject: | Rusty's sag |
I just want to know how many people are running rusty's coil lift and have noticed some sag with a stock bumper. I know an arb will sag a rusty's but how about just a stock bumper will the rusty's sag or no? Looking at a lift in the spring hopefully when I get into a camp job but just wanting to know. |

I have only seen 1 KJ with the rustys lift and it sagged BAD with only the stock bumper besides for $450 +shipping you could do an OME lift with Rancho struts better quality and less money Rustys still has the OME coils listed for $100 a pair and the rear shocks for $40 each All J's sells the rancho struts for $85 each to me this is a no brainer |

Rustys springs are only rated at 310 lbs, about what stock are, they are just made to give you lift so like a stock spring over time it will sag no matter what the masses say. Rustys is the best bang for the buck or at least that is what everyone wants you to think. OME springs are designed as a suspension upgrade to make the KJ (or anyone vehicle ) handle better, haul more of a load etc. Plus like jason said you can buy OME just about the same price, but back to your question YES they will sag and after I read about that way back in 2004 I went with OMEs but still people flock to Rustys Tom |

how much lift would I get with just ome HD springs and a 2 ring cleves lift prob about the same as rusty's I would imagine. That does sound like a better idea and I know the ome springs are good because they are well like even in the tj world. I think when the time comes that is prob a better idea. Thanks for the input I've never really though of that. |

sidewayskj If you decided to go with the HDs and then added a 2 ring clevis lift you would be about the same hight as rustys if not higher. I cant really say to much about the HDs in the front since i dont have them but i can give you my input on the meds up front and HDs rear. After a few months the front saged a bit but not much at all so i installed a rustys strut plate for about half an inch of lift but it still had not leveled the KJ due to the OME made to sit nose down! Now i have installed a 3 ring clevis lift Which makes it about level or the front a bit higher which looks good accept now i think i will need a set of ALs upper A-arms since my UBJ will make contatc now at full droop. I now think that with the HDs in the rear and what i have up front i cant be far off from frankenlift and i must be higher then rustys. I will see if i can get a pic with my phone so you can see. OME and you wont be dissapointed. Josh |

I like it but the front sagged after 3 months and i have a stock bumper. Bought the rusty's strut plates and that fixed it for now. If i had to do it again. No doubt Frankenlift!!! Spend the extra money! |

Sag sag sag. Tell me about the sag. Everything sags. The Frankenlift will sag. OME will sag. What is the standard level loss to be considered sag? Can anyone answer that? I have Rusty's and I know it is a great lift. Two LOST Moab trips and rock crawling in the Rockies proves it. Rusty's lift IS great for the dollar. Just as some have had issues with their "whatever" lift, others have not. I have RL's rear bumper and suffered little loss in height. When I do get his front bumper, I will have to upgrade due to the very large increased overall weight to the KJ. That is just a given. For stock front and rear bumpers, Rusty's will do. Yes, it will sag, just the same as all other lifts will over time. Each piece of metal, each driving style, each change in weather conditions, each trail you hit, will affect the longevity of a lift differently. |

I have had a Rusty's lift for 70,000 miles now...it has only settled a little bit. I don't have aftermarket bumpers and only MOPAR skids and some sliders. It is a good lift. If you load down the KJ often though then maybe a heavier spring is for you. Bottom line is that it rides great and gives you the extra clearance you need for bigger tires and scraping less rocks on the bottom of the KJ. |

And I still have the "Watever lift" and no matter how you look at it we are all trying to acheive the same thing......Max height, smooth ride, and minimum sag.I mean....I hate to beat a dead horse but my Rusty's OTT lift gave me 3 to 3 1/4' of lift, nothing is touching or busted, yet most on here are still pushing half spring and half clevis(OTT on the bottom instead of the top) to get the same results. This topic should be limited to only 2 questions......"What type do you have?....And how do you like it? We all have the freedom to choose, and it is your money, spend it wisely. And before you say it Tom.......Yes Ron's on another roll. Ron |

Tokyojoe I agree.... every lift is going to sag no matter what kind or who makes it. But The only reason i really recommend the OME coils is due to being able to purchase the MEDs or HDs and have very little sag and being able to upgrade in the future to aftermarket bumpers or winchs and still able to achieve a good quality ride if down the road you dont decide to to add these aftermarket products. My.02 cents Josh |

As others have said, the OME springs are not made to lift the Jeep, they were made for better handling and ride. That said, everyone gets the HD coils since it will lift it more but it makes it ride alittle rough. Most do not mind the rough ride but I like a decent ride, nothing soft, but nice. The reason the Franken lift uses the HD OME coils is b/c it has a spacer that adds alot of pre-load to the spring. If they didnt use the HD coils, they would sag over time. I had the Medium duty OME springs on the front and OME HD coils on the rear since I camp alot, tow a boat sometimes, and have a 75lb sub that sits in the back all the time. The Jeep sat nose down like renegadekj's did, even with the clevis lift. I bought some rustys springs for the front and now it sits just a tad lower in the front if not perfectly level. Ive had it on about 9 months now with a few serious trips offroad and its not sagged at all. I have two conduit nuts for the clevis lift with the rustsy springs. |

OK I will say this about lifts and be done first no one can argue that OME makes the better coils rustys lift with rear shocks that dont fit and lesser quality springs $465 OME med springs and OME shocks ,from rustys, $280 Rancho struts ,has NO bearing on sag, $170 All J's now my public school math tells me that the better quality cost less if you do it that way OME/Rancho = $450 + shipping Rustys = $465 + shipping and you WILL have shock issues You decide what works for you but for me the choice was clear and from what I have seen in my limited exposer to lifted libertys ,2 that I have seen 1 OME 1 Rustys OME is better hands down |

tommudd on your ome hd how many ring clevis, and does your rig sit level or lean to the front. I am thinking the ome hd lift is for me when the time comes but wondering how much clevis lift is in the front. |

On mine I have the Rancho struts which unlike the stock or the OME ones does not have a "larger shoulder" for nuts to sit against. So with that I have 4 per side (I think well at least 4 maybe 5 will check when I get back home) and it sits level with HD OMEs in rear and with Rustys rears a little higher in the front. |

so tommudd you have med in the front and hd in the rear or hd all around. Just wondering because 4 rings seams like alot to make the front level with the rear. |

OFF TOPIC: Tom, how'd you like the campus and Athens? Beautiful campus and, hey, it is one of the top 10 party schools in the country. Go visit during Halloween weekend. ON TOPIC: If you just want to lift your KJ and not off-road it, your needs differ from others. Bad batches of components happen (with any company), and a sag could happen after just a few thousand miles or it can last a very long time. If Jason's math and numbers are correct (tax included?), that might be a better option but more hassle to make purchases and wait for each to come in. Also, will you need heavier duty components and will you accept a less comfortable ride? Know what you plan to do with your KJ and plan ahead for what you need and not over spend for what you don't........but the bug could hit you at any moment and the KJ will echo the call......*Get me dirty on a cool trail* and before you know it, you do the Jeep Thing.....Just Empty Every Pocket. You may get those heavy steel bumpers and need to upgrade the lift. For stock bumpers, Rusty's works. |

I believe he has 2 extra upper isolators in the rear. |

If you look at at Rancho strut it has a very small collar on it to go down against the clevis, stock and OME have larger ones so the conduit nuts will not slide over them like they do on the Ranchos so more are needed, make sense? On the rear I run only the springs and the original lower and upper isolaters, no extra ones |
