| Post subject: | Skids... |
Well finally going to be getting skids for the "BSJ" (Big Silver Jeep, 2006 edition) and was wondering what heavy duty armor is AVAILABLE for the undercarriage now that the Super Skid II has been discontinued by ALL Js?? I plan on getting the factory fuel tank, transfer case, and engine skid, knowing that the ALL J skid would have covered the tranny. Or at least I hope that is the correct thought, someone correct me if I am wrong. But now that the SSII is gone where else do I turn for heavy duty protection...and I'm not thinking Trojan here... Thanks, Scott |

From what I've seen lately, our only options are to make it ourselves, or go to the local 4x4 custom shop and have them made (if possible in your area, of course). Good luck. I've decided to buy a Mopar tranny just skid so I can get the bolt pattern right, and make my own. I guess it'll be for sale once I get the measurements I need from it. God only knows when that'll be, though. |

hold on now NOT one place makes a tranny skid for the KJ? and my bet is that mopar will stop making them REAL soon If this is the case I can have some made but I would like to have say 5-10 people commit to buying them kinda like a group buy We have a local guy who built the one that I have on the KJ and it has been OK not great but it has not bent on the trails I have wheeled with some mods it will be just as strong if not stronger than any skid out there let me know I will be talking with him on Friday when I get my TJ rear locked and get some ideas on cost I will up date this topic and start a new one then What else would folks want for their KJ's that no one else makes? BE REASONABLE and I can talk to him about that also I am thinking some kind of rear corner gaurds some kind of lower A-arm skid an Extended front skid plate and some kind of muffler skid or guard sorry for the hijack |

What about Skid Row, do they make one? I'll be looking shortly... the reason I say it is so so if you remember the trail you rode down here? that one ,tho mild, is basicaly it no real rocks or even trees have hit it yet I have taken hills that heled the front wheels up completly but they were just that ,hills not a log wich would point load it in the center I would add some arms or out riggers dead center to "realy beef it up" all the stuff I listed above will be built in about a year but if others want it now I may try to work something out It will mean leaving the jeep with him for a few days while he builds the stuff problem is that for him to build a "1 off" product takes up his time and cost me wayyyyyyyyyyyy more money but if we get 5-10 people who want something then it is worth it 2 hours to make a template 1 or 2 hour2 to build 2 more hours to get right then only 1 or 2 hours each to build I dont want to eat 6-8 hours of shop labor and if others want them he wont charge the "template and get right" charge's but he will want a FIRM commitment on a number and I am not going to ask him to do it if no one wants it |

some kind of lower A-arm skid and some kind of muffler skid or guard I like the A-arm idea, thats a pretty vunerable spot on yalls KJs, but the corner guards???? How can you come up with a corner guard with a plastic bumper that wraps round to the flare?? And the muffler skid might be kinda silly too...either re-route the muffler higher up by usin a smaller unit or just accept that they'll get bashed. Ive seen most mufflers come down pretty hard and these days they are already pretty solid construction and take a few hits...believe it or not on a TJ i aint hit the muffler too much. I get hung up on the LCA mounts more than anything...good ideas though |

I know that the axle end of mine were getting pounded then I did an Nth* redrill and had some small plate welded to the bottom where I cut off the extra steel ,raised them up about an inch the frame end is also easy just weld some plate to it |

They have LCA skids that can weld right on to prevent it but Im just too lazy to get em...eventually I will do something like that...I still dont get the corner guard, like a mini rock slider?? Wheres it gona bolt to...?? |

there are other mods needed but it moves them WAY up check into Nth* mobility for the full deal I do know that it will work with ANY lift out there that uses the OE 5 link rear |

Brian What I am talking about is the fact that they were moved up like an inch or so the "sliders" are just some plate I had welded to the botom The big problem is that you also have to move the uppers as well but it gives a better ride if you do all the rear stuff with it and like I said it can be used with any other lift that is a 5 link |

Did you cut em off with a grinder or have the shop do it? |

Hey Jason, I'm in on one of the skids. It could be possible to use my 05 KJ for a template. I just put the Mopar skids on and all fit the drill holes perfect. So I guess it would make a good template. I know I'm down here in your neck of the woods so whenever you gets around to it let me know ...no hurry... Oh yeah Nolakj could be easily talked into one of these skids too. And yeah an A arm skid/slider would be cool |

| Post subject: | A hinged skid Plate |
Many Many years ago My father and I built a Dune Buggy, using a Kit purchased from Sears (yes I said Sears ) this was around 1969, any way we took a 1964 VW stripped to frame and engine then cut 14.5 inches out of the floor pan and mounted the fiberglass body and then the fun and games begin Chrome parts on the engine 3rd and 4th close ratio gears 1300 cc motor converted to 1600 cc. I digress , one of it's cool features was a skid pan under the pancake VW motor and transmission with a oversized hinge. This allowed bullet proof protection with a pull pin to hinge down the pan for oil changes or other under side mods or repair. I'm a shade tree mechanic far from the abilties of say RL or the other fabricators around. But I haven't seen anybody else approach this problem from this angle. Not having wrenched enough on my Libby to make any other possibiltys. I respectfully submit the premiss to my peers who have turned a wrench once or twice on a Liberty. If I'm talking out of my exit port then I aplogize just an idea from you all who have much more experience then I do. I bow to those who have much more experience then I. I post this question out of ignorance on this matter, you can not learn if you do not ask. THANK-YOU |
