Post subject:  help with aux lights...

i need to find the low beam wire from the headlights, but since all the wires under my hood are pretty much brown from mud, its kinda hard to tell, and i am very unfamiliar with the electrical setup in the KJ. basically i have some lights on the roof that im trying to wire up and i got everything goin'! i got the relay all wired up, but i was told by a friend that i could bypass wiring the switch to a 2amp power source... i dont think that is holding true. so now all i need is to find that 2 amp headlight wire and it should work. if not... off to circuit city it goes and im $175 poorer.

some good did come out of all of this however, when i disconnedged the negative termimal from the battery and then reconnected it, the transmission now shifts a whole lot smoother from 1-2 and 2-1. all those trips to the dealer and all those software upgrades, and something that simple could have cured it all along! :D

Personally, I hook up all my lights in pairs and independent of the brights and lo-beams, meaning you can turn them off with the car off and the keys out of the ignition. It's just the way I like it. But I think I can help you. I don't think you want to use the wire to the lo beams...I think you should be looking for a fuse. Open up your hood, and, standing in front of your KJ, find the fuse box between you and battery. You'll have to open the cover up and you'll find a panel for a lot of your fuses. There's also a diagram labeling them all. Find the one that says lo-beams or maybe just headlamps, take out the fuse, stick your wire where the fuse went and put the fuse back in nice a tight. Close your panel and run that wire to your relay and I think you're good. I may be be totally wrong, but I'm pretty sure that method will work all the same as splicing the wire to the headlamps, it will just be easier and you won't have to do any snipping.

It also depends on what type of lights your running. If you are installing driving lights then you'll probably want to go off of the high beams (if you want them to come on with the lights). If you're installing fog lights then you can come off either the low beam or the parking lights.

Exactly. If there "driving lights" you won't want them on when you have your low-beams on!! My Procomps would blind everyone on the road! If they are fog lights, then you'll be okay because the beam is diffused enough. If they are driving lights, I have mine on their own seperate relay and switch. that way I can have on any factory lights and not worry about blinding everyone.

I'd say that's your best bet.

I've done a lot of electrical stuff, any questions, fire away and I'll see what I can do!
