I know, a weird question, and it depends and varies.

But overall, what is a good choice for a DD and wheelin' all sorts of terrain, rock, sand, dirt?

Standard load range tires as well as C, D, and even E are found on sizes Libertys can run, in A/T types of tires, and in M/T types, standard isn't usually available, right?

Standard would give the best DD ride, but may not have the cut resistance of a 'C'?

anyone?

I ran a LR C tire on the TJ in almost every condition you can think and never had an issue
I did blow a side wall out in Gilmer TX but no tire would have survived
I sliped sideways in to a sharp rocky out crop.
the weight of the KJ will not be an issue with a LR C as well ,most are rated for ~1900 a tire

I would try to ffind LR C but good luck
You will probably end up with either D's or E's cause of the 16" rims

I like the higher load rated D or E...the KJ is a heavy bugger and I feel more confident airing down to 20 or less on an E rated tire.

I prefer the E's also. They give the KJ a much more solid feel. And they give a lot more peace of mind when you air down and crawl over the sharp pointy stuff.

E range is way too stiff, even for the "heavy" KJ (there is a thread somewhere else that debates this). C range is what I would recommend for all types of wheelin cause when aired down to 15 or less it aint so stiff and conforms to the ground instead of just drivin right over it if that makes any sense...I use C range on my TJ, no probs airin down to 10 or sometimes less and it is a much softer and more responsive ride 8) I wheeled with E range MT/Rs for over a year, hated em 8)

I think this is great question. OK, it's one I've been pondering myself. I ran across this chart that may be of some help.

Image

My stock Goodyear HP's have a load rating of "SL". So, the way I see it, anything with a rating of SL or XL (for P-Metrics) and load range "B" or above (for LT's) would be an acceptable load rating for the KJ.

For 4x4's, the biggest problem seems to be finding a P-Metric tire with better sidewall protection. In the 17 inch size the field gets real narrow.

but the higher the load rating the longer the tire lasts under the same conditions as a lower load rating tire, correct?

for a load rated E tire is it safe to air them up to maximum pressure? the uniroyal larado HD/H specs indicate they use up 65 PSI.

It'll wear out the inner section of the tread very quickly. That max psi is for if the tires are carrying their max load. Figure out what percentage your KJ is of the total max load of all four tires, then multiply that percentage by 65psi to determine about where you want to run them. Does that make sense?

I was thinking more if the aluminum rim would be more likely explode with 65PSI of tire pressure, or somthing like that.

I run the goodyears at 44PSI (maximum) and they are wearing OK on my truck, tread wear does not seem to be a problem for me so far.

I have had D and E rated on my 2002 KJ and they conform just fine...more comfortable for me at lower pressures with the higher rating...not reccomended, but I could drive home on my E rated with just 20 psi on problem and then air up at home.

I have driven as far as 30 miles on the highway with mine (E rated) at 20 psi. They handle almost as well as when aired up and don't show any signs of unusual wear. They didn't even get very warm. I don't recommend it, either. That's why I was asking about the compressor on that N. Pole Toy in that other thread.

Ive driven 60 miles on 15 psi on C rated tires countless times...that is a total myth, on the street the best wear for my tires is at 24 psi so accordin to you I am about in that "danger" area??

Several variants to consider but, given your vehicle's lighter weight, and I'm assuming you have pretty decent tires that can handle a higher than ave load for a C rated tire (assumption, on my part but...) I doubt you'd be in a "danger zone" even at 15psi.

Why dont you recommend it either?? Do you have any real experience that was negative with airin down and runnin this pressure or are you just goin off by what others say??? One of my best jeepin buddies lives over in Grover Beach, CA and as yall Californians know thats right on Oceano Dunes...he works for AA (Advanced Adaptors) and regularly drives his TJ to and from work over 40 miles away and around town all the time on 15psi. There is no problem doin this

Never said I wouldn't do it... just not gonna recommend it. My buddy with the white XJ that shows up in a few of my pics never has more than 18psi in his D-rated MTR's, and he has no fears of driving it on the highway, any distance, any speed.

You need to lighten the "you know what" up. Did I say or point to you? Do you think that every post in any thread you participate is directed at you? Where did you come up with the theory that "I" said you were in this imaginary "Danger" area?

By the way the above IS DIRECTED AT YOU!

Man take er easy  Howd you get that I thought you were directing something at me?? I was just simply sayin since you said "not recommended" that you ARE in fact directin to all who read what you typed that is aint a good idea to drive with low pressure on the roads...so I said "Ive driven on 15 psi on C rated tires countless times" and to you this aint "recommended"...this is the "danger" area I was talkin bout, although you never did say danger so I apologize for that wordin :D ...o and this is directed at you
