I know, it should be 48 hours (per the can's instructions) but, how long did everyone make it between painting and final installation of their sliders/bumpers/etc? I've been waiting to get my sliders for a long time and I'm getting antsy to finally have them fully installed!

The paint will still be soft after 48hrs so it would be easy to scratch. I usually wait about a week or so just b/c Im not home during the week(school)..

Well, I guess I just don't have enough patience... or it could be that I just won't have any more time between now and Saturday (wheeling/clean-up at the ORV park) so, I went ahead and put my step-skinks on this afternoon. I was very gentle with them so as not to scratch the paint, however there were a couple of wrench slips while I was under the KJ. Tapped the sliders a couple times but, the paint didn't chip or anything, that I noticed. Got lucky, I know. It'll get babied until next weekend so hopefully the paint will be alright. They'll need to be repainted soon again, anyway, I'm sure.

I don't know if the design got modified or what but, mine don't seem to stick out quite as far as I thought they would, based on others' rigs who have the step-skinks. You can see in the pics below that the outside of the slider lines up with the outside of the tires, pretty well. Awesome work, Marty. I love 'em already. :D

the sliders haven't changed. You just have an '05 so it has the plactic trim piece that bulges out so they don't look like they stick out as far.

Thanks, I really like them and I've already gotten a lot of compliments on them. Chetos, I don't remember seeing yours. I remember seeing the step-skinks on a couple of 02-04's but not an 05, before. Got any pics handy? I'm kinda curious about the difference between Sports and Ltds. I've noticed the differences in front and rear but never really looked at the sides that much. Just shiny parts, that I don't like, on mine as far as I've noticed. Anyone wanna trade some black trim for some chrome? I'm keeping the seats though, sorry.

Thanks, chetos. Not sure how I missed those when you posted them (unless that was the week I was on vacation). Yours almost look like they stick out a tiny bit further than mine but, that's probably just camera angles.

Oh, mine have do grip-tape on them, too. You just can't tell from the crappy pics my crappy camera takes.

Are the 235's really that much skinnier than 245's? I can't even see my sliders from that angle, just tires. You sure Marty didn't change the design a little?

That might be the difference your seeing. I don't think he changed it but you never know. Take a pic from the same angle and see.

The 17X7.5" rims stick out 1/2" farther than the 16X7" rims. The 245/70R17 Wrangler Silent Armor is 9.8" on a 7" rim, so about 10" on a 7.5" rim. The 235/70R16 General Grabber AT2 is 9.4" on a 7" rim. That puts the Wranglers at a little over 3/4" farther out.

just tried. batteries are dead in the camera and I don't have any extras atm. But, looking at my KJ from the same angle, I can only see a small bit of the sliders, from about the back door to the back edge of them. Could just be the tire width but, it sure seems like they don't stick out as much, a lot more than the 5-10mm tire diff... more like half an inch or better. Not that I'm complaining, 'cause I think mine are perfect, just not quite what I was expecting.

I did change the design a little. I shortened the arms by 1". They still provide the step, but if your wheel/tire setup didn't stick out much by using stock rims or whatever, and especially on the 02-04 models without the plastic, I thought they stuck out too far and didn't look quite right. I made that decision after seeing chetos pictures and personally didn't care much for how they looked sticking out so far.

Ha, thought so! At least I'm not imagining things.

Thanks Marty. I actually considered asking you to only extend them 2" instead of the 3" that you had advertised on your website for me but, well you seem to have a way of knowing what's needed for any Jeep. Can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Went out to the ORV park today. Broke a few rocks with the sliders a couple times... once was even an actual use, not on purpose or nothin'. :D This isn't that time, though.

Does that mean that the Super Skinks stick out more or less for an '02 Sport or if you want them to stick out farther you need to order them that way. I personally like the sticking out years ago my dad got a wild hair and while I was out of town I left my truck and cat with mom & dad and they drove me to the airport. Upon my return while I was gone Dad had put running boards on my truck. I didn't have the heart tell him I really didn't care for them, until a short time later I noticed in a parking lot if any one tried to open their car door it hit the running board instead of the truck I then gained a whole new appreciation for them. Thats why I'm thinking of the Super Skinkers instead of the standard ones. I love seeing other trashing their doors instead of beating on my Jeep   :-)r :-)r
