If you hold each one up in the location they sort of make sense, the transfer case skid doesnt look like it will work anywhere until you climb underneath. The trans skid has a round like hole in the front of it. The engine only fits one way tom |

Check out this thread for some drawings I posted on the different Mopar skids. When you install them go from the back forward, that way the skid in front will overlap the one behind it. That'll let you slide across rocks/obstacles without snagging (unless you decide to back up). tommudd wrote: If you hold each one up in the location they sort of make sense, the transfer case skid doesnt look like it will work anywhere until you climb underneath. tom Actually, the engine skid is the one with the hole in it. The trans skid is just a long rectangle. |

The holes are there for "Nutzerts". Those fit in the bottom hole and require a special tool and two wrench pre installation. There are alternates to the tool but basically they expand in the hole. Others have drilled a hole in the top of the cross pieces and run a bolt all the way through. It is good to have a torque wrench for the Nutzerts. |

What the hell are nutzerts? And I suppose they are a dealer item right? And if they are a stealership item, they must be expensive.. Not sure of any other way of putting them on.. You mentioned drilling holes? how so? |

x2. You'll get it when you look under there. |

They'll come with the skid plates, along with a tool to install them. tommudd wrote: ACTUALLY the tranny skid has a small hole towards the front thats what I was talking about look at it again! Ah, I see what you are talking about now - that circular cut-out in the front end of the skid. When I read 'hole' I tend to think something in the middle with material all around. Guess that's what I get for being a draftsman at one time |

Draftsmen dont need to drain their oil ctr05kj some of the places that you will need to bolt up to you can just drill up through the cross members etc to bolt it on without those nutzerts which if you do not get them in correctly will basically fall back out |

I bought these skidplates used... so I'm flying blind here.. and now i know where they go. so thanks to all that helped me identify.. Tommudd, Jeepjeepster.. (great writeup).. and pics. I just need to find someone/something to help drill the holes in the crossmembers to install the skids w/ grade 8 hardware. |

Nutzerts will work OK if you don’t want to go to the trouble of drilling through your frame. Properly installed zerts have not given most of us any problems. Dealer Part number -- The hex number is: 06506644AA Install Tool use http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... rts#182260 Notice this tool is just a bolt with a “nut” without threads that you hold with a wrench to keep the nutzert from turning while the nutzert is squashed (expanding) into and over the frame (very much like a pop rivet) as you screw in the bolt. You can buy the Nutzerts from the dealer and make up your own install “tool”. Use a bolt that threads into the zert – place a washer on that bolt then a nut that is big enough to spin (not catch threads of the bolt), then a second washer to be sure pressure in on the entire zert top. Thread this (bolt, washer, big nut, and washer) into the zert and hold the zert firmly in the pre-punched hole (hex in shape) in your frame. As in the install picture, hold the assembly firmly against the frame with an end wrench and keeping the big-nut from turning while you use a socket wrench to screw the bolt in – expanding the zert until it bottoms. Remove your “tool” and do the next zert. |

BTW if your Renegade has a trailer hitch, you must take that off, then push your gas tank skid up – hold in place with a jack – then hoist the hitch back up (use another jack). The same bolts hold them both. |

So am i correct to assume.. that i need the hex nutzerts? or are their round ones too.? Called the dealership local, they told me about 3.00 a piece, but he was honest and said you can buy them from auto parts stores.. How many will i need? I know the Gas tank skidplate doesn't need any, nor does the Engine Skidplate.. How many exactly will i need? and what size? Engine one is installed, man that was easy !!! |

As I recall......the transfer skid came with hex and the tranny cam with round but I am not sure it makes a difference unless the holes in the cross beams are hex and I think they were all round. I don't remember the count either but I think you can download the instructions fron the Chrysler or Jeep site and they list the number and size. They don't tell you if they are hex or round but if you crawl under and look at the holes you can tell in a hurry.
