Post subject:  Installing fuel injector

When I loosen the fuel rail do I first need to take all the PSI off the system and will I need to remove all 6 of the injectors in order to replace the one in question or will I leave the injectors in place and just remove the fuel rail? I have never performed this job. Any help would be nice, Thanks

Yes you need to relieve the fuel pressure first,or a big mess will occure. All the injectors should pullout on the rail.Make sure you replace all the o-rings for the other 5 to or you might get one that will start leaking on you.

It is done. I did the pull the rail with injectors intact. I did not have the O rings so I cleaned them all and lubed them B4 I put it all back. Thanks for the help. I thought it would be a tough one but it only took an hour. Thanks again.

If you didn't replace the O-Ring for at least the next month keep a close eye out for leaks some times it waits a while till pressure has a chance to work at it before the O-Ring blows. If it still doen't leak buy a Lotto Ticket for you are extemely lucky  :P

Is that a KJ thing? I've had the injectors in and out of a subaru 20 times and never ever had a leak. I've also had injectors into and out of neons, ls1 trans ams, etc and also never had any leaks. I always lube the o-rings before reinstalling them.

I have heard of people getting away with it, with no problems. But when I was learning how to work on the newer cars with FI , my instructer beat it into my head to change the O-ring every time. In addition to some of the other tricks of the trade as to what to look for in previous short cuts of other Mechs. and to repair the sins of others. For the price of a few O-rings it's a good practice and an extra insurance policy to avoid other problems. Just the way I was taught :) 8)
