Anybody here install a custom front driveshaft after original (between Front Diff and Transfer Case) went bad? If so, how about some information. Where you had it made, pictures, how it is working out, how many miles you have on it. Seems like hardly nobody is doing this or maybe I am the only one that had one go out so soon. :(

Thanks,
Ron

Your not the only one thats had one go out, mine went out in February, and have been casually looking into replacement options. I remember reading about a few others on here having them go out. Heres a recent thread that may help you... http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=24633
and heres one to consider...

Weren't you the guy that called JE Reel and they said they may have made like 3 custom ones for the kj? Your best bet is to find a drive shaft shop and see what they can do. Then again it maybe cheaper just to buy the oem. Someone should come up with an aftermarket shaft because this problem is not going to go away.

Yes, I was the person who called Jim @ JE Reel. I decided to go to Tom Wood's here is Ogden, UT. I already have the driveshaft made but have to get the correct yokes. The sealing surface on the outside diameter of the two yokes need to be larger than what the guys at Tom Wood's installed on the shaft. I have all the measurements but have to wait until Monday for the shop to be open. This has been a PITA but I want to get it right and don't want the crappy OEM driveshaft. When I pull this off I'll just have to replace u-joints next time. By the way, the spline count on my Dana 30A is 26. I counted it three times cause I read in Randy's ring and pinion differential book that it was 27. The NP231J transfer case has 26 splines too. I'll post pictures and information for you when I get this project complete.
