arite, i know MPG threads are a dime a dozen on here but heres my question...... im lifted and larger tires etc etc.... so i know my stock odometer is off, it reads me out at like 210 / tank (20.5g) i just today rememberd my garmin GPS unit has a trip computer in it too....but how accurate are these? i'm going to do a full tank comparison when i fill up this weekend, but so far 10.0 miles on my jeep's odometer = 10.6 on my garmin's what do you all think? i hope the garmin is right |

I dont know what GPS you have but a guy at work has 1 of the high dollar mapping units and it is spot on as far as distance and seems to be spot on when compaired to the OD on newer nonmodified trucks I used it in my wifes KJ and got close to the same reading I think it was 10 and 10.7 I can tell you this we took one of those measuring things with the bike wheel they go to 9999 feet and we rolled it out the window of the truck for like a 2500' in trafic and the GPS was within a foot not to bad |

Most GPS's with odometers are pretty accurate, but they can be off, if you loose satelite coverage (less than 4 satelites) or your making lots of turns like weaving through city blocks. I've tested mine on road trips and find that I have about a 3% error, that is my odo reads 100 when my GPS tells me I've traveled 103 miles. Trying to get it any finer doesnt seem worth the trouble. |

Even if you had the correct size tires, a GPS is going to be more acurate than the mechanical odo in the car. That is providing that the satellite reception was not lost, but it is pretty hard to loose reception, especially if you can use an external antenna. |

I used the delorme GPS on my laptop and my speed-o was right on with the 245/70/16 tires but not with the stock 235/65/17 tires. It was a few mph high on the stockers. I went to a tire size website and got the % error from my stock tires to the offroad tires to figure it all up by hand. It was only a few miles over the course of a tank. |
