Has anybody ever heard of that? Also, they tell me that my hubs rusted out, causing both front speed sensors to fail. Neither the brake handle nor the hubs are covered under the extended warranty. I would not recommend that anybody buy the extended warranty - they don't cover ANYTHING. The parking brake will cost about $250. Can you believe that? |

That sucks!!! and yes I believe it...when the parking brake cable went on my SVT, they wanted $390 just to replace the cable malf. I just had to live with it...I was pissed at that price tag!!! argh. |

I thought the speed sensors are in the axle tube (the tone ring) and the receiver is nearby. Also, what's wrong with the e-brake handle? How exactly is it "worn out"? Something smells fishy here. |

I've always had problems with the ebrake. I can pull it all the way up before it engages. I've brought it in a few times to be adjusted, and it comes out a little better, but then ends up being back where it was. click-click-click-click-DEADSPOT-CHUNK-click is how it engages. |

There are a couple of threads around here that show you how you can adjust your e-brake when you have that particular issue. |

There are toothed tone rings (like the one in the rearend for the speedometer) around the hubs that monitor wheel speed for your ABS. if there is excess play in the bearings in the hub assemblies, then your sensors will say "oh crap, this ain't right" and put the ABS light on in the dash. Do you wheel? if the answer is yes...are you a fan of water crossings? if so, this could be why your hub assemblies are toast. |

oops! Is there any way to prevent the rust? Should I have done something to clean them out after getting them wet, or is it just the nature of the beast? Is it that same issue with the ebrake that people have here? I searched around but didn't find anything that was more than just "adjust" (the dealership said "we can't adjust it,it needs to be replaced") |

I think the only thing on a handle that can wear is the rachet mechanism - as you pull on it - it clicks - the edges of the gear or the latch that locks in place can wear the corners so that they don't hold. my Camaro did that but I could take off the gear and file the edges. I doubt you can do that on the Jeep. |

Search for some posts that I made showing how to adjust the ebrake. There is an auto adjuster on the ebrake handle that over time seems to stop adjusting and slips. Ive not looked into it but Im sure there is a way to lock that clutch so it doesnt slip anymore. The front ABS sensors are inside of the knuckle. I guess if water gets in there it will cause rust over time. You could take the sensors out and see if you could clean that out. |

The dealer was able to get the hubs+sensors covered under the extended warranty. The ebrake they are not going to do, though. I don't really want them to, since it's just going to happen again. 45k miles seems like a really short lifetime for an ebrake handle, especially since it started slipping within a year of when I bought it. I am going to send a letter to DC and complain about it. |

I haven't had my ebrake adjusted but I do have issues with it. I have let the KJ roll back in Neutral will pulling it up since that was how all my Olds adjusted the ebrake. This worked a little on the KJ but not really. Lately I have been pulling the ebrake lever up completely and down completely 2 times and then on the 3rd time the brake grabs tight about halfway up. |

i shighly doubt that the reason your hubs are bad is due to rust. There is no wat the a 2005 vehicle shoud have that much rust. An i ve also never heard of a hob going bad from rust period. Id make a call to the crhysler customer service people at talk to them and have them give the stealership a call. that usually takes care of the problem. Thats what i did when my tires got tore up from the bad lbj's. They didnt want to replace them so i called up dc and they pertty much told the stealership to fix EVERYTHING thata a bad lbj could have screwed up |

I'd believe the rust - new england is pretty well known for being hard on the undersides of vehicles, and I have a tendency to not remove mud and snow quickly, so it doesn't surprise me too much. The dealership is already covering them under the extended warranty, because they figured out that replacing the sensors was pointless without doing the hubs. The ebrake is the only questionable repair job remaining. |

My parking brake stopped working after 20,000 miles. I had the cable tightened but it stopped working again after another 1,000 miles. Jeep's actually have a separate brake warranty with a shorter duration than the bumper to bumper warranty. |

Me? I turn up the radio and have noisy mud tires to cover up any bearing noise, and my 02 doesn't have ABS, so the light doesn't come on. I know, it's an expensive, high-tech solution...but it's proven to work Crusader, you obviously have no idea what water does to bearings. they're most likely not RUSTED, but they're definitely toast from being submerged. |
