| Post subject: | Pinion Angles |
Alright guys I have couple questions about the rear end. I get droning noise between 45 and 53 mph only under load that goes away if I let off the gas. I took it to the dealer and they told me that after service manager looked at it he said that the driveshaft and pinion anlges were not right. I don't think he measured them but just looked at them. they told me to take it to the 4x4 shop and have something done about that. After that i took it to the different shop and they told me the noise is coming from the rear end. So my question is could the rear pinion angles really be changed that much with 2.5" lift? I read something about shims and stuff to correct the angles, do I need to try to do that? What else could it be in the rear end that would drone at certain speed? I did change the u joints and the noise is still there. |

Many people run a 2.5" lift and higher with no problem. Are you sure it didnt drone before the lift? Our Jeeps have a load drivetrain overall. |

Yeah Im pretty sure, first time I noticed it was after getting alignment done on the way home from the dealership. |

First I hear of someone having problems with pinion angles from a 2.5" lift. Get a SYE, if you have a NV231. Or maybe Al's Y-link might help. |

I don't know if thats what it is or not, Im just trying to figure it out. How would Y-Link help with pinion angles, it would just dro the differential lower making the angle even more extreame, right? |

I thought it was supposed to help the pinion angles with Al's 4"/6" lift. |

I have had my lift on for over 45000 and no drone or vibration of any kind |

can Y link be used with only 2.5" lift |

wildrussian, from what I have read so far dont think so, more for the 4 inch and more lift. Contact jeepinbyAl and see what he says about it. I was under mine the other night looking at moving mine some, after I do some additions after the first of the year, have a plan but nothing made yet. |

I don't think it's your pinion angle. It takes quite a few degrees to make them vibrate, and you would notice it before 45mph. I would look at the rear gears. Drop the cover and see if there is a lot of metal shine to the oil. I would say the drive side of the gears is starting to go. If you dont feel the vibration while coasting at that speed or slowing at that speed, it is most likely the drive side of the ring gear. Travis |

Have you changed the fluid lately? Do you have Trac Lok? If you do you might need to change the fluid and be sure to add friction modifier. Next would be some bad bearings. I doubt the pinion angle would act like you descibe. One other thing could be a bad tire with tread separation. Good Luck |

Yeah I changed the fluid few thousand miles ago. I do not have trac lok and I did take it to the tire shop and they said it was something in the driveline. So technically if its something in the rear end the lift has nothing to do with that? |
