Post subject:  suggestion to begin off roading

Hi, i live in lebanon, lots of snow, and off road snow in here. I just purchased a 2002 jeep liberty limited automatic, that comes equiped with part time, full time, and low four wheel drive. I equiped it with brigstone dueler tires. can't afford more for the moment. I tried it on heavy snow, and the performance of the tires are not good.

Im planning to purchase chains for the tire for the moment, and cant afford something else now.

Can you suggest if its a good choice? what kind of chaines? and whats the performance i will be getting?

And what kind of fourwheel drive i have to use?

Is my liberty can do offroad withought any tuning and ugrading?

Thanx a lot

Regards

My opinion is put it in Full Time 4X4. Even without chains you should be ok. You will be able to drive around in a normal manner. If you run into a real bad situation you can use 4lo. Some of the guys in COLD COUNTRY can answer better though. It doesn't snow here.

Welcome to the forum! You will read a lot of good information from a great bunch of people! And..........Merry Christmas!

Part-time or Full time for light/medium snow conditions, for really deep or slippery conditions use 4-lo and take your time truckin through, carry litter or rock salt for nasty stuff. As for chains try these sites.

If you have ABS, make sure you get chains that won't mess with it.

What type of chains will work with ABS equipped units?

I'm not real sure. I just know that the traditional chains create a magnetic field that messes up the ABS sensors.

Just get them made from aluminium as this is not a magnetic material.

Are you being serious or was that like a Back to the Future joke?

Chains have other uses. You can use them in mud and other slippery surfaces. A great way to climb out of a rut, cross rut, or to use a side bank to get around something.
Not much stops a chained jeep until you high center.

Use full-time for patchy snow and part-time for roads that are 100% covered in snow.

Use 4low in snow that is really deep.
