| Post subject: | Frankenlift rubbing issue |
I've had the Frankenlift plus Als gen4 control arms on for a couple weeks and have been seeing some minor rubbing between the the control arms (near the UBJ) and the springs. The rubbing usually only happens when going over speed bumps at low speed (less than 10mph). If I just cruise over the speed bumps at say 15mph, everything is fine. I was wondering if anyone else has seen a similar issue? If so, did the rubbing go away after the lift settles in? |

I've had the Frankenlift with Al's arms on for about a week n a half. The first day I had it on yes I had alot of contact between the arm and spring. It is settling though and it is less and less each day I drive it. Just getting an alignment made a huge difference in clearance between the arm and spring. I have done alot of research on here and it seems to be the norm, so I am not too worried about it. Brad |

Thanks Brad. Hopefully an alignment will help out like you mentioned. |

When you lift it the tires will be angled in at the top, so when they do the alignment and stand the tires back up straight it will be a lot better. Also it takes the springs and everything some time to settle in, after that it will also be better |

I can't believe you've driven the KJ so long without an alignment. The thing must handle terribly! |

The UBJ "housing" should hit the bump stop, not the arm. If the arm is hitting this may be the cause of the failures reported in Al's Arms. I would note/picture where it is rubbing and contact Al. He may need a Gen 5! |

In regards to the alignment, Quinn up at All Js told me to let the lift settle in for a few weeks before getting the alignment. It surprisingly drove pretty well pre-alignment! I got the alignment monday and now the rubbing is slightly worse. They were not able to get the caster to spec but I think camber is more important in terms of UBJ rubbing (please let me know if i'm off here). Eddie, your correct, its the UBJ housing thats rubbing, not the arm itself. However, my UBJ housing hits the coil about an inch above the spacer/bumpstop. After reading some past threads I've determined that the lift is probably sitting too high in front and needs to settle out. I'm just going to drive the KJ a lot harder now in hopes that will settle things out. Here's a couple pictures of the UBJ and coil on the drivers side. You can see where the rubbing has occured on the coil (brownish/red mark).

Is that on the ground or jacked up some? Doesnt look like it has settled all the way to me. That bumpstop on the spacer isnt doing its job either. I thought All j did away with those and used the older type spacer. |

Nothing extra was done to the lift. In the pics its sitting on the ground. They are the HD springs so I imagine they need a good workout to settle. I've seen some pictures of their old bumpstop so if I can find a thick piece of rubber at a hardware store I may throw that on for a while. |

HD Springs and an internal puc?...wow...that does not look good at all. |
