I have an 04 Renegade with about 70k on it. I'm finally ready to start changing some stuff and I wanted to start with a no-slip in the rear and a frankenlift. With the frankenlift, do you need to get Al's a-arms with the lift or is that something that you do after it settles, to see if you need them. Also, has anyone had any drive shaft issues with this lift. It is only 2.5" and the other lifts that are similar to that said that it wasn't necessary. I didn't see anything on the Frankenlift site that said that. Also, is there anything else that I need to be aware of with this lift? I'm also not any kind of mechanic and am hesitant to do anything that could result in stuff coming apart on the highway and killing me. Does anyone know of a garage/mechanic in the Pittsburgh area that they would recommend? Lastly, I was told by the dealership that I needed to have the breather tubes on the difs lengthened at my last inspection? I asked the guy what would be involved and he didn't really seem to know much, so I don't know if he was looking for more money or what. Any info on this and the difficulty? |

I have not heard of any driveshaft issues on Frankenlifts and there are many out there being wheeled regularly. As for breather tubes..... WTH are they talking about? If they are too short from the factory then they should be replacing them under warranty. Sounds fishy to me. If they are the normal length then they will be fine for all but deep water crossings and if you don't do a lot of water crossings it isn't an issue. It is easy to move the front one up by just disconnecting it from the bolt it is attached to under the batter tray and moving it up to and zip tying it to the battery tray, I was able to raise mine about 6-7" that way. I can get a pic of that if you need it. I have always done that whenver installing a lift on a KJ as it is easy to do when you have the front end apart, batter tray out, etc to install the lift. |

Some folks over your way, maybe you can get a lift party together! I have done 4 lifts so far here at my place, and its pretty easy if you have a jack, stands and of course the proper tools. If I can be of any help just let me know. Jon (jerbacher) lives in the Kent/Akron area and has helped on a lift and some others like I said over that way. Pbrug, lives in Pittsburgh area and he did his own lift as well. Ask around, a lot cheaper than paying a shop yo do it! Or just haul your junk over here and we can do it in a few hours! You dont need the a arms as many have lifts and not the arms. |

Here is a couple of links about extending your breathers. You don’t need this until you find yourself in water deeper that you expected – then it is too late. Even if your are not sure if you got water in any of the four, you will need to change the fluids to be sure any water is out. There are write-ups on here where guys lost bearings when they didn’t know they had gotten water in the dif. http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... php?t=7229 http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=22690 |

My friend has a shop in the South Hills area (Baldwin). He does all the mods to my Libby and installed my FrankinLift a couple of years ago. No problems with it yet but i would suggest Al's A-arms, I changed my upper and lower ball joints also. There really is nothing to worry about with the lift as long as you go back over it once it settles. You will love having it. |

You keep on having lift parties and you may pass Clint on installed lifts. |

I would suggest against getting the power-trax unless you know whats youre getting into. Its ok for someone that goes offroad alot but its not the best thing in the world for a DD. It pops, locks up alot in turns, adds alot of slake to the drive-train.. Ive had it for a year and all seems ok but Im ready for it to get out of my diff. Im looking into getting a Detroit TT sometime or another. It costs about the same but installation is much more involved as you must take the entire carrier out. Al's arms are not needed but they are alot better than the stock ones. You can grease them, it makes alignments better with a lift, and it takes some angle off the balljoint. If you can afford them without loosing food at the table then I would get them some time or another. Probably before you align it just to save some money since youve got to get an alignment after getting the arms too. If the breathers are stock then that guy doesnt know what he is talking about. |

Frankies are easy to install remove your current struts assemblies and install the new ones rear is no harder than changing shocks DO NOT waste your money on a power trax I some how broke 2 on back to back trail rides got one in go on a trail ride ,it broke got that one replaced under warranty go on a trail ride and the new one broke Got a Detroit locker now and it has better road manners than the power trax and it did not break on the first trail ride The reason I think the Detroit has better road manners is because you know what it is going to do the power trax may or may not do some thing Dont worry about the breathers They are higher than your lower door seal and I never go in water that can come in to the Jeep |
