Does anyone make an aftermarket Aluminum trany pans for the KJ? Something that would still work with a skid plate?

i know they make one for the 45rfe. i think it's like $300, but i dont think you can fit a trans skid plate on with it. it hangs down further because it holds a few extra quarts of atf.

This is what the website said, "If you have a Jeep Liberty and need a pan, please let us know what transmission you have and if there are any clearance restrictions. Email us at yourcovers@pmli.com or call (310) 671-4345. This pan has 14 bolts. Some Jeeps have the 42RLE transmission which has 13 bolts. Please check your existing pan configuration and clearance, especially with the exhaust system. Click here to see an image of an exhaust system and this pan. In this case, the customer moved the part of the exhaust that conflicted with the pan. Depth is 4 9/16 inches."

I have talked to PML. They said that they do not currently have a trany cover, however, they did purchase a stock pan to have a better look at the idea. Like most aftermarket manufactures, PML might be interested if they feel that there’s a market for one. Most Jeep owners want to retain the skid plate (understandably) or replace it with an aftermarket one which limit’s the overall depth. If they made a stock capacity pan, it would still be 5/8" deeper than stock because of the fins and added wall thickness. The purpose for the aluminum trany pan is to significantly decrease transmission temperatures which could prolong the life of the transmission. Plus you would have a magnetic drain plug making for easy trany fluid changes. Please let me know if you are interested. I really think we can make this happen if enough interest is shown. Again, this is just for the 42RLE transmission. Please give me your thoughts!

I have a 45 tranny and need a pan (really bad trail rash, no skid at the time).
I guess I'm out of luck and will have to just get a stock :(

Probably a dumb question but......

What is the point of having an aluminum tranny pan?

What is the benifits over the stock one?

Your stock pan is made from steel. The aftermarket pan with cooling fins is made from Aluminum. Aluminum greatly reduces the transmission fluid temperatures which prolongs the life of the transmission. Most aftermarket pans hold more fluid than stock, sometimes several quarts more depending on the truck. The aftermarket pan typically has a drain plug, so it makes it easy to drain fluid without having to drop the entire pan. Also, the drain plug is usually magnetic, which helps collect unwanted floating metal particles keeping your fluid cleaner and protecting parts. I put one on every vehicle I own.
