Post subject:  Gas Tank Skid Plates

I hate to beat a dead horse, but what gas tank skid plates are available? And what are your personal thoughts on each one? Keep in mind I’m wanting to install a rear differential cover so clearance might be an issue.

i actually plan to make my own gas skid. just to simple not to. since i am a welder and metal fab. by profession. i think i can make one stonger and for sure cheaper than i can buy one plus ill save tons of cash. but thats just me im sure thats not an option for all. sorry im not more help but i think all that were said were the one i know of and just throwing the idea out there for those who like to fab there own stuff.

The mopar skid seems fine to me. I guess I'd better do a little more wheelin' to be sure though

Although I have never come down on my Kilby very hard I think it would take the weight of the Liberty and then some, VERY strong for sure! Wish the rest of my skids were as well built!

i have the mopar one and its ok for what i do. but for what its called, a "skid" plate, thats what its good for, not for backing into rocks or landing on them with the weight of the jeep. i have a corner peeled back on mine a tiny bit, and a somewhat small dent, but they work good for me!

The mopar skid does the job, but it is a little on the soft side if you come down on it hard. You can sorta see in the pic where it got pushed in a bit.....

I have a Rusty's Fuel Skid and I came down HARD on it at Tellico. It is built like a tank so I was not worried. I don't know if there is room for a RuffStuff diff cover behind it, but I am going to find out,... :D

Yea, the mopar skid is more for sliding than it is for landing on. Ive slid off of rocks with it and it does fine, but as you see in the pic above it will bend.

Nice Photo! That’s a good way to illustrate the need for a gas tank skid.

that's an awesome color of KJ!.. i dont think i've ever seen one that color on the road.. or in a picture besides yours.

my mopar skid has worked great for me so far. not extremely heavy but still 1000x better than no skid!

I believe that's Atlantic Blue Pearlcoat (color available 2003-2006, most common in '05).

There was a period here in ATL ('05-'06) where you could not throw a stick in a parking lot and not hit a Atlantic Blue KJ!!! (Mostly on 4x2 grocery getters)...

Color was discontinued on the KJ (not "manly enough") after 2006, but can still be found on the Dodge Durango.

No, have not ordered it yet. I have been working on purchasing and mounting my front receiver hitch, wheel spacers and front diff collar. Only so much money and time.

Ask 2006KJ, he put one on but I think he has a Kilby skid...

According to his signature, he is running full mopar skids.
