after a certian model year, the engine adapted a "drive by wire" electronic throttle system. be careful of this because im not sure if you can adapt a throttle cable to it

The 3.7 from a '02-'06 should be interchangeable for all years from '02-'06,a '07 KJ has the cableless throttle.

i'm going to go with a new 3.7 just to get the truck running so that I can get it out to Leo at tntcustoms to get the SFA project started..... the 4.7 V8 looks like it will fit, but it will be too much work right now to make it turn key. They would have to tilt the engine 4 - 8 degrees to make it all work, and that just eats up the space available... so for now it's going on the back burner... thanks for the input though... it makes shopping for an engine a lot easier.... Now I'm looking at performance upgrades for the 3.7...

i was thinking the exact same thing. hope you like cold air intakes and cat back exhausts, because thats about it in the way of performance. however if you do find a good find, let us know for sure!

The Wikipedia performance section for the Liberty says you can use the blower from a 4.7 with a different tube?? what does that mean.... KRC can make the forged internals needed for the engine to be able to handle the boost....... grrr.... lol.. I just dont know....

I have read that the 5.7L is dimensionally smaller than the 4.7L, if that helps...

Maybe a Chevy 5.7(350cu in) but no way is the 5.7 HEMI smaller then the 4.7,the 5.7 HEMI is massive, heck the oil pan holds 8qts compared to the 5qts for the 4.7.

Go to the 2x4 section and look for KYLiberty posts...there are many things you can do including a B&G Flash to the computer.

Blower not a good idea on a stock 3.7L...the rings are too close to the top of the piston (to get better fuel mileage) to handle boost pressures.

You can greatly improve the performance of the 3.7 Libby. It's a much more realistic option if you don't have a sponser than a 4.7 swap. You can also do it in steps. Here's a link to a basic break down of the stuff you can do.

I've read that the 5.7 is smaller as well. Not necessarily smaller but less wide or long (I forget which one). I was reading this in a magazine that built a red TJ with a 5.7, they were thinking about swapping to a 4.7 but the 5.7 was actually easier size wise for the application.
