Does anybody know anything about these? http://rustysoffroad.com/mm5/merchant.m ... ry_Code=sw It would seem to be a partial sollution to the question of fairly cheap, reliable, self-recovery for the KJ. It already comes with a hawse fairlead, so it would just need a synthetic rope added, right? Looking for comments from those that have actually used the winches on their KJs with either an ARB bumper, Detours Backbone, or front receiver hitch mount. If this turns out to be a good deal, I may go with one to use with my "Landy Hitch" when I get it installed. |

I may be wrong, but many of the winches on the market I think come from the same place. Chicago Elec. from Harbor Freight, some of the Mile Markers, this winch and the one from Costco I think are all the same. They look like an older Ramsey design to me. That said when the Moab Jeeper magazine tesed a bunch of winches only 3 survived the torture tests, the Warn, another Superwinch design and the Chicago Elec. Harbor Freight model. They did say it wasn't pretty and the Chicago didn't run as nice as the others after the test, but there were a bunch that never even got halfway through the test. Info on the Moaf Jeeper site, I think July of last year. You just have to ask yourself how much you use a winch and how long are your pulls. For me not very often and the pulls I don't imagine exceed 40 ft very often so any of them work for me. A buddy has the Harbor Freight on his jeep now 6 years or so. |

I believe that the Superwinch brand is made in the USA and not in the China factory that makes so many other winches. Superwinch really strives to take on Warn. If memory is correct, Superwinch was the official winch in the Camel Trophy. |

Yeah, I read the online version of that article. It was the best comparison I have seen yet. My big concern is that when you search for the LP8500 online there are almost no references to it, so there is very little information to go on. |
