If the weather allows Im going to put in my OME HD springs all the way around this weekend. So Im going to do it all myself. When I did my Rustys, I took the springs to the shop but I had to drive for half a day to find the shop that will do it. This time Im using spring compressor, so my question would be about the sping compressor. Can I compress the HDs with one spring compressor? Anything else I need to know about working with OME HDs?

I will tell you what my local shop said about the HDs when they compressed mine for me," Was the toughest springs that they had ever done and they all stood back away from the machine" I just took them in and dropped them off, of course I knew they would be tough, thats why I paid them 20 bucks to do it.
Unless you have a good set of compressors and a air gun I would not try it, I value the top of my head too much to have it taken off!
I would find someone to do it for you , much easier, plus youre looking at springs that are way stronger than the Rustys even

I would not do it, me and my dad used to sets of spring compressors and they were both bending a little, and it takes a long time to compress them by hand b/c they are so strong

i agree with above.

i took mine to a shop after we tried to do it with spring compressors and an air gun.
the springs compressors were bending out, so we called it quits before someone lost something attached to their body and let a professional do it.

those springs are hard to work with.

All wise comments and warning that need to be heard.

First shop (local NAPA Shop) I took mine too could not compress them. Took them to a local tire dealership and they had a pair of heavy duty monster compressors and they guy did them real fast. He even commented as to the strength and danger he felt with them. said these aint from no honda civic......

JUST BE CAREFUL.

I carried mine around with me for a day or 2 till I found the guy to compress them. That way I didn't waist the saturday looing for a shop that was open and willing to do it.

did mine with strut compressors from sears. they did the job,but it took about an hour. I only did it cause i couldn't find anyone that wanted to do it for me except pep boys. Couldn't get there though, my jeep had no front suspension at the time.

No, you cannot compress a spring with one compressor. It takes one on each side of the spring.

I just flat out couldnt find a compressor that would fit between the stock springs, much less the OME springs. The KJ has some beefy springs, thats for sure.

I ended up getting a buddy of mine with a wall mounted compressor to do it for me. I lol'd when I saw that he lined the rustys labels up perfect on the springs. I kinda like it that way now as you can see them through the wheel wells pretty good.

Im getting confused here, I have a spring compressor that has two pieces with it, one for each side of the spring. When you guys say I need two compressors do you mean I need two pieces or four pieces?

I would love to have somebody else compress them for me but I don't know if I can find somebody on saturday and the jeep is my only way to drive.

you have what it sounds like you need , but do you have a air compressor and air gun, if so then you can spin those babys right down if not , well get ready to build a lot of muscles in a hurry.
I would find someone to drive me somewhere to get it done but thats me, the OMEs are rough to do by hand (without air assist)

I had the same problem with my HDs. We ended up using 2 sets of spring compressors and an air gun. It still took us awhile.

I tried to do mine with spring compressors no way in h*#$ OH I have a crd with the 790's stiffest OME's there are I had to build a setup to use with our shop press. If anyone wanted to ship me their springs I would do them for nothing but probably not worth it. It takes about 2 seconds to do them.
