I've developed a clicking sound coming from it sounds like my rear hatch. Has anyone had this happen?? I've looked and looked to try and find out what is loose so I can tighten it but it's still a myster. Thanks

Check the rear seat latches where they attach to the metal loops.

when and how often do you here the click? I hear one at about 5-10/mph but thats the auto lock mechanism. 8)

That only clicks once. Is it repeated, and do you nitice it as you drive and hit small bumps?

Have someone else drive and you ride in the back and try to locate it better. I have a similar noise and it is not the auto lock on the rear hatch.

You could have a look at the jack and gear under the rear seat pass. side.
Its probably not it but start eliminating thing one by one.

Yep, on my 02 it was the "U" latch on the actual body wear the door latches to. I put a lil' felt thing on it and it fixed the problem. It would fall off sometimes when I opened it but... whatever. They had a lil' electrical tape on it when I bought it.

My 07 is starting to have a very slight rattle from the back too. Sounds like from the plastic around the rear corner glass. I think it's just a Jeep trait. Because the body's are so solid and zero flex... something has to move and it is usually the plastics. Not much you can do. Grin and bare it, pull the "FUN handle" and drive where the cute-utes can't. That'll fix it!! ahahah

It happens all the time, like somethings loose or something. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the hatch, I'll put a wrap two of electric tape around it and see what happens. I'll have to check the seat bracket too, Thanks guys

The rear hatch rattle seems to be a problem with the early years of the Liberty. Mine is a 2003 and the rattle drove me crazy. There's also been several postings over the past year about the subject in case you want to do a search. Besides wrapping felt, duct tape or rubber bands around the "U" shaped latch on the body of the vehicle, also try loosening the bolts of the two latches on the body (besides the "U" latch, there is one other one near it) and gently tap them slightly with a screw driver so the door will pull in closer to the body. Then re-tighten up the bolts. Goal is to pull the door in tigher to the body when the back gate is closed. For me, that resolved the rattle.

It works beautifully. My Jeep is officially squeak free! It sounds like it did the day I drove it off the lot... with the exception of the nice growl of my off road flowmaster muffler.
