| Post subject: | what shocks with "al's" 4" rear springs |
installed AL'S 4" rear springs and 4" rear ball joint relocation bracket but am still using the 3" rough country shocks (that live up to there name ROUGH). The shocks are not real old ( maybe 12 months and 10k miles) but there are real stiff. They are the same part number as the xj and arnt really valved for the lib......so does anyone have a good alternative to the only other choice of AL'S 4" shocks..... OLD SETUP....
NEW PARTS....
BALL JOINT RELOCATION BRACKET INSTALLED....
NEW SPRINGS.....
She rides good, just needs a shock that is valved for a liberty and not a lifted xj, I guess I could chop off the shock mounts and weld on AL'S shock mounts and that would allow the use of a shorter shock which there are a greater selelction of like OME'S.....what do you guy's think?? |

Off topic a bit but how hard was it to install the relocation bracket ? Doesnt look too bad , whats your heighth in the rear now? and what are you doing in the front? Shock wise , you could get the number that Marlon is using and cross reference it to some other brand. |

""""""Shock wise , you could get the number that Marlon is using and cross reference it to some other brand.""""" Good idea.....I know JBA has shocks but frankly I dont like skyjacker shocks....they have been, not poor quality, just very 'universal' in design. Maybe on a very heavy vehicle they would be great, but for the back of the lib they are NOT valved correct. As far as the front goes, I am going to the 6" when released, but my old set up in the rear was just 3" spacers on stock springs and the springs were starting to sag ( which is why I had the rubber spacers in them, The jeep sagged in the rear with all my tools in it.) and I am going to pull a 6' x 12' cargo trailer from florida to north carolina, and with the trailer loaded, it all but bottomed out the rear, so I decided to bite the bullit and change out springs until JBA gets the 6" out and I'll just sell the 4" springs and relocation bracket to someone looking to piece together the kit. The bracket isn't tough to put in , but the cast piece is mounted by 3 bolts that are installed with lock tight, so even when you break the torque on them, they still require a ton of effort to remove--you really need an impact wrench for this. ALSO--you must remove the 3 bolts that mount the harmonic balancer to the diff to get to one of the bolts. So...it just takes longer than it looks, but its not difficult at all and it really does a good job of leveling off that upper control arm and completely corrected the ball joint angle. |

I'll get some pics of the lib tomorrow in the light....I put the springs in last night in my garage and there wasn't any light to take a pick of the whole lib.....I didn't think to get a before and after measurement of the rear but it sits level now and I'll also get some picks of a tape measure at the fender flares..... |

You could call All J's and ask them if the N132L's would work. I don't know how much taller your lift actually is compared to the Franky but I bet it's close and those shocks were designed specifically for the Liberty. I just talked to them yesterday about them and they are still carrying them at $84 each. I know there's a post around here somewhere about the specs I'll see if I can dig it up and post it for you. Edit- Found it here are the specs for the 132L's http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... c&start=45 |

Looks good 06LIB, do you think putting the link extension into a 2 to 3" lifted KJ would be a good idea? And, are these the rubber spacers between your spirngs? Where did you get them, I'm finding that after loading up my KJ with gear & my draws it sags about 5 to 10mm in the rear.

Taking the fuel door off and adding the "FUEL" decal looks good. |

CDKJ---------the ruber spacers I got at an autozone or something for about 5 or 10 bucks but they stiffen the rear alot, so I would only use them temporarily until you got a stiffer spring. JBA has 2.5" springs for 133.00....maybe that could be a good solution to the sagging. I dont know if the 2", 4" and 6" springs are all the same spring rate or not but if they are the 4" ones I got from him do not sag at all, with all my tools in the back now.... as for the bracket to relocate the ball joint, I think it could be a good idea....but I want to warn that I installed my bracket and springs at the same time so I havent seen if there would be room for it on just 2.5" or 3" of lift. The upper control arm in the rear is completely level with 4" of lift, less lift may cause clearance issues....JBA should know wheather or not it will work......but if he says it will work, then I recomend to everyone reading this to get one. I didn't realize how much just a little bit of pinion angle effected the drivablity of this jeep. After installing the bracket the jeep corners better, drives straiter when hitting bumps, is more predictable when hitting bumps in the road at speed and also, the jeep lifts strait up instead of squating when accelerating. I'm certain my rear ball joint will last longer now as it isn't always sitting in a max angle position.....so I see no reason not to install one at all, Especially if any of you are going to go the 4" route in the future. I also pulled a small gargo traier with 3500lbs in it this weekend on the highway to see how the jeep would handle the load, and the springs didnt sag and the jeep went strait down the road as if the trailer wasnt there. That is much better than before springs and bracket when the rear was bottoming out on the smallest of bumps and the front end was wandering because the rear was so squated....So IMO JBA springs and bracket are good products. maybe the 132L's will work....i have seen the specs....132L 623mm open....409 compressed, but haven't found specs for the JBA 4" shocks.....if they are the same I think I want the OME's |

I'm only considering it for when loaded, I'd remove them for offroading (after removing the gear). My lift in the rear is 36.2" when loaded with the draws, fridge & food. It goes up by 0.2" or 5mm (to 36.4") without all the gear. I sent an email to Marlin at JBA asking about the bennifets so I will wait and see what he thinks. (I'm running 265/70/16 muddies). |
