HELP!! It's seems I can't find a good mechanic here in North Jersey to figure out & fix this problem. While driving(of course),it starts out as a "thumping" sound-like a military helicopter (Huey??)the faster I go the more pronounced the vibration is. This sound also is worse in the winter rather than summer. This problem began in the winter of 06 & has become worse. I have no other modifications done except what i have listed, the rest of the Jeep is stock. One 4-wheel drive center looked at it and said: "It's too high, tires are too big-thats what your problem is". GIVE ME A BREAK!! One thing he did say was that the Y-Link bushing is shot. I currently have it at another mechanic(has had it for 3 days) & he wants to try putting my stock tires on to see if the larger tires are causing this extreme vibration/thumping noise. This guy is trying very hard at this point to help me out so I'm going to stick with him until he gives up. Hopefully he won't "rape" me in diagnostic costs. I have spoken to Jeff Daniels Jeep Customizing in Harleysville, P.A. (2 hours from me) and I'd like to just get my Jeep there already!! At this point I must wait it out with this mechanic because he IS trying. If anyone out there has a solution to this problem PLEASE HELP and I can pass it along to my mechanic. This is NOT AN EXTREME LIFT on my Jeep!! I just would like to get it fixed. I'm not that mechanically inclined(I work with fiber optics), so i don't know what modifications are required & where to obtain the parts. I need guidance. I would like to "Prep" it for the 4" lift by JBA but at this point I'm afraid of what new problems may arise. AJ 05' Liberty/2.5' R.R.O. lift/ Mickey Thompson P265/70R17MTX. |

I just got work from my mechanic that my front drive shaft is bad, was having the exact same problems with the vibration and clicking. Not sure if this is your problem, but thought I would let you know my situation. |

Rear u joints can cause a bad vibration also, have them check them real close, remove driveshaft and check them, mine seemed OK until I did that. Also mine went out at about 55,000 |

Mine kinda does the same thing, between 40 and 50 mph it gets the vibrating resonating sound but doesn't actually physically vibrate. I can't figure it out either, I changed my U joints in the rear driveshaft and that wasn't it. I took it to two different mechanics one said it was the pinion angle and the other one said its something in the rear end, even though the noise sounds like its coming from the front. My started doing it after I got the lift so unlsess it was coincident it changed some angles somewhere I suppose. did yours sart after the lift? |

Check the tires for a broken cords. Check the front drive shaft and ujoints on the rear shaft as already said. |

U Joint / Driveshafts. If your shaft is at too much of an angle, the shaft itself could be toast. Take it off and see if it has any play in it... U Joints cost $20... easy fix. The shaft may need to be rebuilt if you have some slop...couple Hundo retail. Could be worse... or you could have a bent axle shaft...also easy to tell. Take the cover off, pull the c clips and take them out. Check them for run out but if it's as bad as you say, I'd bet U joint/shaft. |
