so im goin for my 60k either this wk or next at meineke and im just wondering, besides the basics, do u guys think i should ask for anything extra to be inspected for problems such as the lower/upper all joints? My concern with this is that I bought my rig at 57k in october and I asked the deaker rep a million times if the recalled ball joints have been replaced as per the recall and he kept replying that it would have shown up the report if they haven' t ..but my instincts tell me otherwise: should i get these checked along with the 60k tune-up? Also, how much you think the 60k will run me dry?

i would not take mine to meineke...i would take it to a trustworthy shop...unless that is your trust worthy shop...if you go off roading and have been in mud/water then change your diff fluid...yes always check those ball joints...also a trany/transfer case check could be nice to see if you might need the fluids changed...i'm at 80,000 miles and have only had it change twice...as far as price? no more then 200$ for sure...if they are charging you more then your getting shafted

A 60,000 miles service by the owners manual is pretty extensive, tranny service,t-case,F/R diffs, air filter, plugs, and so-on.At a dealer this service can cost between $600-$800,smaller shops probally $400-$600.No way can you do a 60,000mile service for under $200 unless you do all the work yourself, the fluids and parts will be close to $200 alone(depending on fluid type).Look in the back of the owners manual and it will have the service plans(follow the extreme one) and look at all that needs to be done.I just did my 60,000 mile service, did all the work myself but the tranny flush/filter replacement, and it ran me $400 in parts/fluids alone(granted $130 was the fuel filter,$130 for trans flush/filter change),but I change everything and often.

Anyone get their 60k-maintenance that has the 7/70 powertrain warranty?? Was anything done in this maintenance that was COVERED by the warranty???
(according to the manual, the 7/70 covers: engine, trans, frnt whl drv, rear whl drv, and 4whl drv...but it doesn't give details)

The warranty doesn't cover any service type stuff like oil changes and such.Your LBJ's are covered under the recall though.

ok good to know either way, thanks tjkj. Yeah actually the lbj's (AND uppers) are top priority! When I bought my used kj in october from a dodge dealership I asked the guy repeatedly if the lbj's were replaced as per the recall and the dealer rep brushed my concern off by saying something like "if there were any problems it would show up on the computer" ..OK! wtf? so were they replaced or not dude?? (I get so annoyed at dealerships) This has been bothering me for months now hmm I wonder if there's any wayto check for myself to see if they have been replaced..like entering my VIN on an online database or something..

Step one: Go to the Jeep website and check the recall notices yourself. Follow this link

Step two: Change the spark plugs yourself. It'll only take an hour and most of that is just getting the hang of the first one. (Save's money this way)

Step three: Change the belt yourself. Again very easy if you have a 15mm socket wrench (save's more money)

Step four: Get your oil changed at your favorite place and ask them to service your 4x4 bits - this will be expensive

Step five: Transmission service... Get it done but not by the dealer - they are very expensive

Step six: If you need, change the coolant at your favorite fast lube place [but only let them use G-05 and nothing else. If they don't have it don't change it!]

Step seven: ask questions about anything here..

Good luck!

What's wrong with Meineke? there are plenty good people that work for Meineke, Car-X, and other chains. Just because it's a chain doesn't mean they change fluids any worse than a dealership. I'd take it to a chain before a stealership or mom-and-pop business, because you can get warranty work done at another store in the chain if you're on a roadtrip.

'sides, she doesn't wanna pay a lot for that muffler

Meineke like any other place can have a reputation to not know what they're talking about. Them and Brakes Plus told me I NEED my front swaybar to get an alignment
