Certainly not as flexed as those of you with lifted KJ's, but it was still fun to see.

(doesn't simon say don't strap your vehicle by the rear axle?) I have a similar picture...only there were none taken of me taking the most drastic of measures. the temp tag was still on it...

I'm thinking a spade would be a good idea next time, you only have 2 hands. + they work better when they aren't squashed flat So your now going to get a few recovery points and a shovel Other than that, nice KJ |

WOW. My question is, how long did it take to get you out? Like others said, I don't have to tell you this, but tow points are recomended. Nice looking KJ. Awsome that you still had temp tags on it and taking it wheeling. When I bought my KJ in 03, I called in sick and took it wheeling that day |

Sorry guys, I ment to post this in the picture section. Looks like my post received plenty of attention here though. I was stuck there for about 3 hours. Was trying to cross a mud pit. I really beleive I coulda made it, it was just poor execution on my part as a new and unexperienced off-roader. None the less, it was still fun spending a few hours getting dirty and trying to dig her out, and it was also a learning experience. Yes, for those pointing out the fact that I was strapping a line to my rear axel, I am aware that it's not the best idea. Trust me, everyone in the vicinity was aware of the potential danger of a snapping line, we all took appropriate cover. But it was pretty much my only option. Eventually, we connected my KJ to a Chevy Silverado 2500 4WD sitting on monster A/T tires using a 1-ton capable strap. Pulled her out w/no problem at all! No damage to my KJ. I do appreciate everyone's advice though. Tow hooks and a lot of other mods are in my future. |

Not sure where I found this, but it was worth keeping on hand for some good...chuckles?
Even with some lift, I couldn't get much of anything at Hungry Valley's rock garden (with the sway links on). The rear moves some though. The front won't stuff though with the sway bar linked up.
And more bad times...wish I had the "In the mud shot", but it was the dead of night and framed pretty hard. Taking pics was the last thought in my mind. Should see the inside...I had my driver side window open so I could see.

There is something wrong with that first pic. The angle the guy took the dip at didnt even let the rear suspension flex. Its not an accurate pic of the flex that the kj is capable of. There is a pic of a xj on the same obstacle and its got all fours(or almost) on the ground. Some people think thats b/c of the SFA having more flex but it would need more than 3feet of flex to keep all 4 on the ground giving the position of that liberty. |

So to increase stock flex, 1. Remove rear sway bar (may want to reinstall if you tow, although some on this board have left it off) 2. Lift (longer springs and shocks, or spacer lift with longer shocks) Can anything else be done to increase stock rear flex or articulation? |

Ya, it's been a conversation starter several times. I never saved the XJ, but I'll dig it up just to save the KJ some face. http://www.billhughes.com/XJversusKJ.jpg Not "Nuff Said" really, so hate to post the link without some disclaimer or some thought that it's trolling...as that's what I assume it's original intention might have been. I know they're capable vehicles. That rock garden was my favorite moment in the Liberty really. Day after I got the little 2.5" lift on and that pic is a good 20yards past many decked out locked up wranglers pulling out. It's always the driver, flex or not. The libby isn't a flexy flyer as long as it has the IFS, but that shouldn't stop anyone from wheeling it. Not at all! I've gone more places than I have prior in a libby, and the CJ7 isn't really as surprising as the liberty is. It's that surprise factor that really makes it fun. Anyway, flex is far over weighed as much as driving is. Ted's shown that a libby in pretty basic form can go through Hells Revenge. Heck, I'm trailing him as much as I can in his work...to a point (then I'm following JJ). The same pic with the XJ should be shown against this though:
Keep it even, right? Stock KJ versus built XJ is just flame bait, and I'm sorry I might have came off with that. Big |

1. Remove rear sway bar (may want to reinstall if you tow, although some on this board have left it off) 2. Lift (longer springs and shocks, or spacer lift with longer shocks) Can anything else be done to increase stock rear flex or articulation? The rear, I find, is limited by the trailing arms. If you lift, you should get some longer a-arms and correct this. Rubicon Express (P/N: RE3715) cam be adapted fairly easily for the liberty. I don't run a rear sway bar at all, run the RE arms, and find it no different than stock. On the front, it's not a bad flexer with the Sway bar disconnects. But then again, you're limited by physical restraints. The lift I'm using will bottom out the struts with the sway bars disconnected and opens up more cans of worms to deal with. Left on....it's doable. Limiting straps on the Skyjacker and the disconnects kinda defeat each other. A-arms and the IFS can/should only flex so much. You can flex it, but should you? I'm asking that too recently. I have a different KJ than others, and judgement comes into play. I'm pre-lift, and lifted. Others are not. It's hard to filter that out...or factor it in. |

Yup, I don't see any advantage to disconnecting the front swaybar either, Flex's more, but you lose quite a bit of ground clearance. I've thought about the link extension assembly from JBA's 4" lift kit with longer trailing arms. He doesn't include longer TA's in the kit, but it seems to me you want to recenter the wheel once its lifted. Anyway for my lift, I'm not sure longer TA's will benefit me much. |
