| Post subject: | New CV Joints??? |
I installed an OME HD spring and strut lift, went out to play on the rocks, and now I have a rattling noise up front. I checked all of the suspension and skid bolts, everything seems to be tight. I did notice some horizontal slack in the axles at the CV joints. When I tug on the axle it moves left to right about 1/2" on the driver side and about 3/8" on the pass side. Is that normal or are my CV's worn out? |

sounds like it but not sure. im getting the J.E Reel cv's from JBA next week. You may want to get some yourself. If its time to replace, your better off getting the right stuff. |

You say you checked the suspension bolts and they seem to be tight. Did you in fact use a torque wrench and tighten to the proper specs? CV's tend to make a roatating clicking noise when they are going bad from the discription that people use when they have replaced them. A rattling noise seems to me, that something is loose somewhere. |

Check the sway bar end links. Make sure they are torqued to 100ft lbs. |

Does the shaft move in the CV, or the entire half shaft as an assembly? The parts I'd call hubs (the inner and outter splined units) should not slide. If these move in any way...we have a problem. However, A new shaft right out of the box moves freely within the CV joints when not in the vehicle. On the vehicle, it can still move horizontally about what you state you're seeing when the vehicle is lifted. I've been driving far too long with a "rattle". It is turning out to be a critical failure(s)! Ball joints going out made a slight clunk, but still a rattle...which is turning out to be the Half-Shaft wobbling on the intermediate shaft. I'm now worried about each and every member's "rattle". |

You need to become a distributor and we can buy from you then. |

Not all rebuilt parts have a core charge,I have bought many rebuilt parts that did not have a core charge.I've bought brand new parts that had a core charge though, that's really messed up there.
So they are $130 now? So much for $50. |

Not trying to battle either but if by happen chance they are "brand new" that's some very cheep steel they are using.Price some steel, add in molding it,machining it,boots, grease, bearings, and then having it all hardened. No way you can do all of that and sell a CV for a KJ for $130 unless you use very cheep steel and it's not hardened, cheep boots, and cheep bearings. The OEM CV's are still over $600(at cost, what Chrysler pays),you can get rebuilt CV's from about anywhere for about $100-$175.
Heck the JE Reel CV's aren't even new, just rebuilt with better boots and bearings. They cost over $400 each. |

The axle shaft moves side to side when I grab it but not as much as the "hub" does. I checked the torque on the sway bar and ball joints and everything is tight and to spec. |

my 03 libby makes a funny rumble up front too. took it to the deler, the said they repalced bearings under 7/70000 warranty. still makes the same rumble after 7 days at the dealer. maybe they changed things, may be they just cashed in from crysler/jeep. ball joints check out okay. |

When I lived in Alaska, many were replacing the CV boots with the blue silicone boots. They held up a lot better in cold and rough conditions. Anyone know of a place to get replacement CV shafts with those blue silicone boots or similar "heavy duty" boot? I live in rural area and my Liberty sees a lot of gravel road, snow, and even the cornfields. Not had a problem so far, but when replacing, I would like to go with a sturdier boot. |

Anybody esle heard of these. I have an 02 with a Frankenlift and boots are my biggest problem. I seem to have a worse CV angle than most I see on here and have worn thru 3 boots and 1 inner CV and 1 inner shaft splines. But a hevier dooty boot or something might help as I noticed a nice groove in the boot the otherday. Any other thoughts or ideas? Thanks |
