I just had my Flowmaster Off Road Muffler installed today. My muffler has the same internal guts as the Super 44 Flowmaster but the outer housing or casing is made of 1/8" thick steel diamond plate. So it is nuke proof. I wanted to bash the muffler with a hammer before I put it on just to see how tough it was...I decided against it. The best part, the muffler shop charged me less $$ than they quoted me over the phone. So all in all it was a good day today. It sounds so good now. There is no drone to it, no rasp, and it purrs like a really pissed big stupid cat when I romp on the gas. I am going to get pics of it posted on my webshots page tomorrow, so if anyone is at all interested, they will be up tomorrow afternoon (Pacific Coast U.S.). Maybe I will get some video of how it sounds.

I have no idea how to post pics on this site...any help?

I will post again once the webshots is updated and will give a direct link as well.

load your pics up onto photobucket.com or a similar site. its free. then just copy the [IMG] tag below the photo in photobucket and past that into your post here.

are you actually incubus mike, or just a guy named mike that likes the band incubus? or maybe something else having to do with an incubus?

Thanks for the photo posting help. Fortunately I have nothing to do with a real incubus. Unfortunately I am not Mike Einziger from the band Incubus, because I would have a lot of money, which makes me just a regular guy named Mike who enjoys Incubus' music.

Here is the link to my webshots page. There should be like 4 pictures pages of my ongoing Liberty project. Let me know what you guys think of the mods so far.

lookin good, mike. i like that muffler. seems like it would be pretty durable. i've always thought that diamond plate was pretty cheesey, but it seems like its really there for strength on the muffler, so maybe its ok! :D

any plans for lift etc. in the future?

Yeah, I am waiting on the lift until my stock tires need to be replaced. I am going with the Frankenlift Premium II with all the OME goodies. I am not sure I am going to get Al's upper A arms yet though. We'll see I guess. Eventually I am going to fab up a front bumper for it as well, and put a Warn M8000 on it, on board CO2, rear locker, and a rear receiver hitch. I would like to get my hands on one of those Rock Lizard rear bumpers and thus not need to get a separate receiver hitch, but man they are $$$. Same goes for pretty much all front bumpers on the market too. So again we'll see.

As far as diamond plate goes, I agree about the cheesy look on outsides of Jeeps, but since it is under my Jeep where only roadkill and rocks get to see it, no harm no foul. And it really is stout. It is a beast of a muffler and it sounds great to boot. It is sort of like a skid plate for my exhaust. :D

I haven't noticed any drone with mine. Granted I have only had it for a day, but I still haven't noticed anything. I think that the roof rack I built and mounted on top of my KJ makes a little noise and the Liberty just isn't a quiet vehicle to begin with, and those things along with the accessories I mounted to my roof rack more than cover up any drone... at least to my ears. Maybe it will get worse when it breaks in or something, but either way, I love it.

THOSE DO LOOK AWESOME. I just went with a magnaflow last week. One thing about all the Flowmasters is that they are FILLED with baffles and chambers to create those tones....the whole reason for going to a performance muffler FOR ME was to have a straight through open flow exhaust to improve flow, which the magnaflow does/is....straight through without the exhaust being redirected around inside the muffler. Take a look at a cutaway of a flowmaster to see what I mean. some have 2 or more chambers and have all kinds of baffles inside. just my two worthless cents. LOL I also found that the Flowmasters have a much higher pitched tone and do get "droney" at high speeds.

I wasn't too concerned about performance because the gain would be pretty minimal as far as HP and MPG. The main goal was the protection of the muffler. Now the muffler is really strong and can take a good beating where as the stock would just get thrashed. I am not sure what "drone" anyone is talking about though. When I am driving at highway speeds I can't tell it is even there until I accelerate. At low speeds there is a nice rumble sound which is deep and throaty but no rasp or high tones at all, even when I punch it. Maybe the thick steel casing causes the sound to be slightly different, but I have no idea.

Your pictures look good! Sounds like you have many projects ahead. 8) You might be surprised, a performance muffler on the KJ, 3.7L has been shown to increase mileage by 1 mpg. This increase in performance might seem minimal to you, however it does add up. I haven’t seen any dyno charts of the before and after muffler swap to see measured horsepower or torque increases, although, the combination of a cold air intake and a performance muffler is very noticeable in mpg, horsepower, and torque increase. Keep up the good work!

I STAND CORRECTED! I DID notice some drone this evening at around 40-45 mph. I can't say it is bad, but I did finally hear it. So there you have it, I guess my poo stinks just like everyone else's.

I saw somewhere that supposedly you can high center on it and it won't mess it, but I seriously doubt that. It is however supposed to be real tough and from what I can tell it is.

So from what I can tell, the new muffler has helped on mpg somewhat. I get around 320-330 miles a tank now and it used to be 285-295 a tank. That works for me. I didn't expect a difference but I have made a conscious effort not to lean too hard on the throttle.
