I've started having problems with a random misfire (codes P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303) in my 2003 Liberty (3.7 L V6). When it starts misfiring, It seems to clear up by turning it off, then restarting. Where it clears when restarting, I'm beginning to think a cam position sensor. Anyone have any thoughts?

I don't have the codes in front of me, but I assume that those are for 4 different cylinders? If that is the case, I would thing the camshaft position sensor would be a good place to start. Let us know what you find out.

P0300 is a general misfire code, while P0301, P0302, and P0303 are for cylinders 1 thru 3. Are all these cylinders on one side of the engine or do they alternate from side to side (i.e. 1,3,5 on one side and 2,4,6 on the other)? I'm stumped on this and am not sure where to start.

They are not on the same side

6 5
4 3
2 1

Do any deep water crossings lately? :) Start swapping coils around and see if the cylinder numbers change. I doubt it though, because it's rare for 1 to go let alone 3.

you may have a bad ground on that side of the harness given that all the cylinders are on the driver's side.

Just an update for the archives. I replaced the plugs and it runs much better. No more codes. I ran Bosch Platinums before and didn't think I had more than about 30K miles on them but I guess I did. I replaced them with Autolite Platinums, so we'll see how they do.
