I don't have an EVIC so I was wondering if anyone could tell me roughly how much gas is still really in the tank when the warning light comes on. |

IT says in the owners manual. If I remember correctly I think its 2.3 gallons when the light comes on. Or 2.5 one of the two. Check it out. |

I wish I knew where I saw it, but somewhere they tested a liberty and a few other vehicles to see how far the vehicles would go when the light came on. They said that the average distance was like 30 miles. So yeah, about 2 gallons. |

My light comes on when the EVIC says I am now under 20 miles left. The problem is, when you hit 0 miles and go fill up, you only fill about 15 gallons (for the `04 tank). There's still 4 gallons left for reserve. |

Yup, thats the problem Ive always had. One day Im going to keep a 5 gallon jug of gas and just keep driving till it runs out of gas to see how much gas is actually left once the light comes on. If it burns up the fuel pump it was worth it anyway. |

I'm averaging about 17 mpg in town, and I usually drive another 40 miles when the EVIC hits 0. Which works out to about 2.3 gallons. I pushed it to 70 miles past 0 once and I was starting to sputter as I pulled into a gas station. That was on the highway where I average 22 mpg, that works out to 3.2 gallons left in the tank. The 04's have a 19.5 gallon tank. If I fill up when the EVIC hits 0, I've never put more than 15.5-16.0 gallons in. The time I ran out of gas pulling in to the station I put 19.0 gallons in. |

Just my 2 cents, but why is this a "problem"? That's the way it's supposed to work. If E really meant "empty," there'd be millions of stalled vehicles everywhere (and one of them would be mine). I've put 17.5 gallons into my 18.5 gallon tank after running way beyond 0 DTE. |

I've never gone past 17 gallons when filling up out of an 18.5 gallon tank. 17 gallons is about when the needle is barely touching E line and about to go past it. |

I don't need a gas light, or a fuel gauge for that matter. The car I learned to drive on was my dad's old MG-A. It had a wood floor and no fuel gauge! I knew how big my tank was, my mpg's and I zeroed my odometer every fillup. I never once ran out of gas, but I came close several times. I'm not an idiot, ergo, I don't need my stuff to be idiotproof. |

To me, having more gas than the gauge shows isn't a problem. Having less would be. I have a 100-mile round-trip commute, so I go by days. 3 days is 300 miles and time to fill up. |

My manual says the light comes on when 2.7 gallons remain. My guess is they never recalibrated it for the larger gas tanks (I have the 18.5gal). So say you have a 20 gal gas tank, the light probably comes on when you have ~4.2 gallons left. |

I'm sure you wish you still had the MG today, just as I wish I still had my 1970 Buick GS (muscle car). Remembering past rides is always pleasurable. |

I agree its nice for all the soccer moms but I like to know how much gas Ive actually got. First Jeep I had was a zj and when it said it was E, it was E. I like that but it does get alot of people in trouble since they dont know what E means. |

Especially when you're out in the middle of nowhere and can't afford to be wrong, it's nice to know where E really is. I just meant that I'm constantly driving past E because of my commute and I wouldn't want E to be empty now that I'm used to it. I remember being really ticked off once in Death Valley when the kj was new and I wasn't sure how far past E I could go. I trusted the DTE readout on the overhead console and turned around short of where I wanted to go and it turned out I didn't need to. |

You should never run a fuel injected vehicle below 1/4 tank of gas.The fuel pump is in the gas tank and under 1/4 of gas it is no longer sumerged in fuel which cools the pump, you will fry the pump faster running it that low.You also will start to suck up all that junk that will get sucked into the fuel filter clogging it faster and at $120 for the fuel filter and having to drop the gas tank(it sits on top) I wouldn't want to go that low very often. Then again I never drop below a 1/2 tank of gas,it also doesn't "seem" to hit the wallet as bad that way also. My 2 cents. |

My 2 cents. I've heard that. But reality gets in the way sometimes. I've got 160,000 miles on this sucker and knock on wood, fuel pump's still going. Gas doesn't sit in my tank long for long. |

The only time I found that out was when I deliberately drove it until it was empty. N |

That's what mine does too. I only fill up about 15 gallons. In the 07 it takes a few gallons more. |

Mine gives me the dummy light about once a month, and I usually drive 1-15 miles after it goes on. I usually pump 17-1/2 to 18-1/2 gallons upon having the light on. Once I think I stuffed in 19. I have a 20.5 gallon tank. |
