Post subject:  Ordering from US to Canada

Hi,

I've been trying to order parts from a local guy in the same province for the OME HD/rancho combo ... but hes being difficult (his excuse now is the rancho rear shocks that are in stock are on a 30day backorder delay) ... %^T#$%$@ ... here I am almost 1.5 months later and he hasn't done anything right...

Has anyone from Canada ordered a Frankinlift from All J products? If so what did you pay in customs charges?

Right now for the the Frankenlift I lift to my door is $959.30 + any customs charges. All J's told me the shipping charge is 123.77.

Thanks for any help.
(this is taking me forever to get a lift on my libby!) :x
ps - is it worth upgrading to a Frankenlift I Premium for the long travel shocks (do they make a difference for highway travel?)

Sorry to hear about your troubles! I'm glad I went straight to All J's instead of trying to part things out. I am in British Columbia. I have ordered, received and just installed the Frankenlift I that I purchased through All J's. I can tell you that the service I have received from them (Heather in particular) has been above fantastic. Quick ship times, accurate in the costs and friendly people to boot.

As for the costs, the lift was $835.53 with $120.73 shipping charges and $166.82 in duty. The duty may have been higher on my order because I had also ordered a Daystar bushing lift for my brothers XJ and had increased the overall order by nearly $200.

On a side note, I had also ordered a SkidRow front engine skid plate from All J's on a previous occasion. I waited for the estimated ship date to arrive, but when the date passed and I hadn't received my order, I called Heather to inquire about it. She said she would look into it and call me back. About 10 minutes later, she returned my call and said that a claim has been started and a replacement would be shipped out the next day. I didn't have to whine, cry, complain, or even raise my voice. In fact, all I did was mention that I haven't received it and gave my invoice number. Heather took care of the rest, no questions asked. No hassle. Nothing. Just great service.

As for upgrading to OME shocks, I haven't a clue. I stuck with the Rancho's as I don't really do anything that could even remotely be considered as extreme wheeling. I didn't feel I needed the extra travel provided by the OME. I have read that OME does provide a smoother ride, but since I've never had them, I'll be happy with my ignorance to that fact ;)

I highly recommend All J's.

If you are looking for OME springs, struts and shocks, you can get them through Cap-It Truck Accessories if you are in British Columbia. Not sure if they carry Ranchos, they are not mentioned on the website.

Might be worth a phone call to see if they ship within Canada if you are outside BC.

Yep, they're a good bunch to deal with. That's who I bought my OME HD lift from, but I got it from the outlet in Grande Prairie Alberta. A few weeks later a branch opened up in town here.

But if you are sold on Frankenlift, gotta get it from All-Js, even better bunch to buy from. Just that nasty old duty fee and taxes to pay on top of delivery.

Not sold on the Frankenlift? That's fine. How many hassels are you willing to put up with. A month and a half of people telling me that they 'can't do it' would be more than enough for me. I'm cheap and all, but man, get it done.

It was either or at this stage ... get the frankenlift or the parts seperately ... I just want a lift now ... (130$ is not bad for customs - I will order something by the end of the week ... I see what the guys in BC can offer me)

sorry for the confusion... :?

Let us know what they can do. I have a Cap-it here in town and didn't know that they offered this kind of thing. Although, I have also been to a different 4x4 shop in town and they tend to be really expensive for the same crap I can buy at Canadian Tire.

I ordered the OME HD springs, OME struts, and OME Shocks from Heather at All J's.

It only took about 2 weeks and that was with a problem in Australia. So no worries. Taxes and duties were just about nothing.

I live in Ontario Canada.

Deal with All J's. Seriously great service and it's worth any extra bucks.

Also my ride is SWEET!

At first, I thought, hey that's not bad, but then I realized that those were the prices for 1 piece each. Add that all up and you've got a total of $1248 before taxes (12% + $149.76 in B.C.) $1397.76 with taxes + shipping. Now that I look back on it, that's about what I figured for a 'local' company. If you go through All J's, you get the product assembled, polly bumpstops and new upper strut plates. Do companies really wonder why people buy from the US

I had my lift shipped to a place in Blaine called Hagen's. You call ahead and register for free and then you have your package shipped to their address with your name and phone number on the shipping label. It cost me about $5.00 when I shipped mine there. When you cross the border you just need to have your invoice and all you pay is the gst ans pst. No duty on the Frankenlift because it is made the U.S.A. :D

Got my Frankenlift II Premium for CRD 2 weeks ago. I live close to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Heather shipped me via UPS and here was my charges

Al-J Invoice Total: 1,299.70$US (wich includes 108.54$US UPS shipping fee to my place)

UPS:
- Duty: 0.00$
- GST: 157.16$CDN
- Brokerige fee: 73.85CDN + GST(3.69$CDN)

C.O.D. charge from UPS when the package arrived was 234.70$CDN

hope all these details helps you.

P.S. the nice thing is that Al-Js puts on their invoices "All Products MADE IN USA". So thats means with the free trade agreement we have with the united states we do not pay any duty on US manufactured goods.

No duty, but the nice people in the Government of Canada decided that we still have to pay GST on the entire order even though Canada had nothing to do the manufacture of the items. I could see GST on the service at the border, but on all the items?

Scorpiate,

I think you'll be pretty happy with the service from All J's. They are excellent people.

You guys need to get friendly with someone real close to the border on the USA side. Have stuff shipped there prepaid, go there and put your stuff on the Jeep and drive home. "Just visiting a friend."
