I'm a bit new to all this so I was hoping someone could explain... How does this work? I know this doesn't replace your shocks or springs... so what exactly does it do? How safe is it? And how good of a product is it? I am kind of thinking of a 2-2.5" lift, that way when I get new tires in the fall, I can go up a size or 2... But this is mainly a city/highway car, I do take it on trail rides, but nothing for the record books ;)

Is that an over-the-top style spacer? If so, don't bother. They'll just destroy your struts and you'll end up spending even more to fix everything than you would if you were to buy a better lift the first time.

I'm kind of deciding between that spacer kit, or the rough country 3" lift kit... at least that is a full lift kit, and from what I am told, because of the bigger shocks and springs, I will have no added roll, and I might even get a smoother ride. I see it for about $350, so I just need to get installation quotes I guess...

Actually, according to rough countrys site, it only works on 03-06 libbys... so is my 02 out of luck?

Please don't waste your money on a RC. I have one and have had to spend close to 1000 to get everything right to where components will last, and will perform well off road.

I bought the lift before I found this site, and all of the dislike towards this lift. If your want s reasonably priced lift get a daystar spacer lift, or rustys coil spacers. stay away from Rocky road OTT lift kits.

Wow, thats a shocker. A friend of mine, and a few of his buddy's all have that lift kit and absolutely love it... I was told to get that over a spacer because I will have less roll than a spacer kit... Now I don't know what I'm gonna do :S I'm told if I get a spacer it will wear out my stock parts and they will need replacing, and I will end up spending the same money I would of on a real lift... But then I am told when I get a real lift in my price range, it also will be crap... Maybe I will just keep it at the stock height.

Those are just spacers right? I thought that spacers cause more wear on your oem parts, and also cause the vehicle to be a lot more tippy, because you are making the shocks and springs always expand... But I don't know anything about this so I am just repeating what I was told ;)

Any lift changes the center of gravity and effects the way the Jeep handles - however if you go to a stiffer spring like an OME - it will actually be more stable than stock.

A Daystar spacer goes under the spring - it slightly preloads the spring (not a lot due to the upper plate) and that makes it stiffer - so if anything little more stable - front - rear just lifts - but you need a longer shock there - Ranchos are common and they're better than stock - so it's equal to or better than stock.

The 'On The Top" lifts can work if you put in bumpstops - the failure is that it moves the upper arm farther from the stock bumpstop - so when the suspension cycles full travel it stops on the strut internals - people have killed struts in as little as a weekend, the vendors don't say anything about the bumpstop - so most people find out the hard way.

I think the Original equipment stuff is bad from the factory and is only used to keep the wheels on for the truck ride so I'm not sure that - 'wearing it out' makes a difference.

The best cheap lift is the Daystar style spacer, but I'd still recommend at least Rancho struts/shocks.
The best spring lift is OME - but it's only ~ 1 1/2"
Frankenlift - takes the OME and adds ~ a 1" spacer to make 2 1/2" lift.

Well its good to hear a few kind words about the RRO kit... So if I went with the dynastar spacer, and went for the new shocks and struts... what would that cost me? I noticed the cage on the sticky here about lifts available, and it was the cheapest... My complaint for dyanstar is it costs the same as the RRO. I am told that I can get the RRO parts and installation for about $500-$600... I believe the dyanastar costs the same, so I would be $500-$600 for that, without the new shocks and springs. This is getting way to close the the $1000 price mark, and if it gets that high, I will wait a year and go with something way overkill for my ride like a frankenlift... At least that would be a solid upgrade, and not $1000 worth of random parts.

How much am I looking at for the rancho shocks? I'm liking the idea of the rro with new shocks... would you say you have a smoother ride now than stock? Also, how tippy is it?

Here is a question, since the lift kit is basically bigger shocks and springs, and you got new rancho shocks, would it of cost much more to get all rancho parts?

full OME coil lift you can get for around $650 shipped
the daystar spacer is $155 PLUS new shocks

$100-front--which I dont think you need to replace w/ daystar

$60-Rear--needs to be replaced w/ daystar

Where can you get a full daystar for $155? I see it for $350-$450 for the front and back 2.5"... It sounds like the RC would end up costing me more than its worth. I think it would cost me $400 for the lift kit, assuming it even works with 02 KJ's, than around $200 for new rahco shocks, add in some installation and I am $600+ at least. If the OME is $650 for parts, that is almost worth it... But we still get to the point that that is more than I want to spend. I think I am going to have to find some local dealers and start pestering them for quotes... Anyone know anyone in Atlantic Canada?

back on my last post I had a link to All-J's - they have the Daystar on sale for $155 - they also have the Ranchos and OME's & Frankenlifts

or you can type in boulderbars.com & click on Clint's KJ

I was just quoted $475 for the RC lift kit, and also told it does not work on the 02 liberty :( It looks like the daystar kit might be my best (and only) option.

Could the dynastar handle a ARB assuming I get rancho shocks to go with it?

The Daystar lift wouldn't be a problem with the ARB but, your stock springs will sag badly. I don't know why the RC wouldn't fit an 02. As far as I know, there's no difference from 02 to 03 other than maybe the tranny and that makes no difference to the suspension. The RRO lift might be ok, as long as you stay away from the "budget" OTT style spacers.

From a canadian dealer, the daystar lift would be about $350 for the 2.5" kit (+ shipping of course). I'de like to find out for sure if the RC would fit on a 02 KJ, if it does, that is my #1 choice. Either way, RC, or daystar, I will get new shocks to go with it. I guess I need to keep in mind, if I get the daystar with rancho shocks, I still have stock springs. If I get the RC and maybe rahco shocks, could that hold the ARB with no sagging? Also, who did you get the rahco with your RC kit, doesn't it come with new shocks anyways?

no, the main thing that holds up the ARB is the coils, but you can find some used CRD coil in the front with your lift and be ok
