I'm sure that this won't work or someone would have done it by now. But I just gotta ask. I was under the front of the KJ today and I noticed that the front axle is mounted to the frame by a black steel cradle. can you put a spacer between this black cradle and he unibody? This drops the cradle, axle, etc. This keeps the driveline at the same level. I know you don't get any ground clearance, but it might let you get some larger tires under it. I imagine that there might be issues with the steering shaft from the steering wheel.

So, why won't this work?

Doesn't the 4" and 6" by JBA kind of do this?

Yes a cradle drop helps but the engine is also mounted to the same cradle. So you need to space the engine mounts up to keep it in line with the tranny and transfer case.

And to keep the driveline angles correct, also if you have HD cooling them you will need to cut the bottom of the fan shroud(which defeats the whole purpose of HD cooling),and you may need to extend wires and/or hoses after a certian amount of cradle drop.Basically a bad idea on a KJ unless you build a custom cradle that only drops the front diff and not the engine, then you got issues with the UCA's not being in the correct location.Ask the original Jeepin by Al,he can tell all about a custom cradle drop.

Ok. Thanks guys. It looked like the engine wasn't mounted to that cradle from what I saw. I thought it might just drop the driveline. I figured if it could be done it already would have...

I am still thinking that the first company to bring a kit to market that allows you to drop a readily available IFS centersection in to replace the D30a altogether will have some customers.

As long as they don't ask for 50 people to commit to buy it...and then have 48 of them back out.
