| Post subject: | Moab wheel weight vs. Pro Comp Series 51 wheel weight |
I want to get a set of the Moabs for when I wear out my tires so I can swap them out, paint them black and run 265/75/16 tires. The 15x8 wheels I run now are the Pro Comp Series 51 with 3.75 bs. Anyone kow much do they weigh? What do the Moabs weigh since they are a 16? I want the Moabs but would like to run a lighter wheel than the heavy steelie so if the Moabs aren't, why spend the $$. I might be able to get a good deal on some Moabs so I need to know if I would be wasting my $$ on them, because they may not be lighter than the series 51 Pro Comps. |

The MOAB's are just a few lbs lighter than the steel rims. The MOAB's are pretty thick as far as alloy rims go and are heavier then most think. |

So the weight saving wouldn't make a diff in power lost from the heavier tires and wheels? |

I know that there is not much difference in the wight between Moabs and steelies but the weight of the tires affects performance a lot. When I bought my Moabs they had 245 75 MTRs on and I could tell a huge difference between them and the 245 70s and stock wheels I had been running. When I took the MTRs off and installed the 255 70s it went back to almost what the stock tires felt like. I would like to get another set of Moabs to mount some good trail tires on and also have a set with more of a street tread/ ATs for those weekends when I run a lot of highway miles. Keep thinking about painting them black as well as I have two with some rock rash on them now. Tom |

If you are trying to save weight, this is not going to do it for you. |

I like the look of the Moabs, but for wheeling steelies are definately a better way to go. I guess it just depends on what you want. I don't "need" the tires so don't let that affect your decision. |

I have been thinking the same thing about weight. if I could find a good set of these wrangler rims I would trade my steel wheels for them and fit my 31" tires on

I think that is also the first pic I have seen with the snorkel on in the US. Looking good! |

Bummer, I really was hoping the alloy Moab would be lighter. Guess not. No point in selling the steelies for another wheel to do the exact same job in close to the same way. |

The moabs on my Jeep weigh the same as my stock rims. ~25-30lbs per rim. I have the moabs from a 2006 wrangler though. The 16x8 cragars I had weighed 50lbs per rim but they were the wide cragars. |

No way did the 16x8 Cragers weigh close to 50lbs each,I had a set of the "fake" beadlock steel rims(the "D" hole window ones),16x8,and with that extra metal ring on the outside bead they only sat at 36lbs each, the Soft 8 style rims are like 28lbs each in the 16x8 size, and the MOAB's are somewhere around 25lbs each.

After doing some serious searching, the Moabs weigh 24 and the Series 51 Pro Comps I have weigh in at 22 lbs. ??? So maybe the steelies are better for me anyway. I called a company and asked them the shipping weight of each and there it is. |

Dude, I wouldn't even sweat it. That setup you have looks great on your jeep. Sacrifice a mile or 2 per gallon in exchange for a whole lot of blank |
