Post subject:  Daystar Lift questions

Unfortunatley, I had some problems with the Air conditioning in my house and to get that fixed the money came from my KJ budget. Then to top it off I had a flat tire, and a second one has a slow leak. So tires are a must. I hate the idea of wasting money on tires that I don't want so I ordered my Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor 245/75r16s today and a 2.5" daystar spacer lift so the tires will fit. This is a temporary lift to allow the tires to fit, it will be getting replaced with a Frankie, in a little while it just got pushed back. I am running the stock struts upfront and was wondering if I can install this front lift without needing to have the strut/spring assembly recompressed? the second question I have seen answered but I always read conflicting answers, so here it is again: with this lift can you run stock rear shocks? Daystar says you can, I'm not concerned about shortening the life span of the shock as I will be replacing the lift. I am not planning on wheeling with it, until I do install the Frankie so that is not an issue.

Any information would be greatly appreciated

In order to install the front puck for this lift you have to disassemble the front strut assembly, this requires a spring compressor. I would recommend you call around to find a shop that will do it, then make an appointment for the day of the install. You could buy a spring compressor, but for the money and time, its easier to have someone do it for you. I would estimate its about a 1/2 hour job, so figure $90 an hour, you shouldn't pay more than $45 or $50 bucks to have them both disassembled, and reassembled with the daystar spacer.

I ran the stock front struts and rear shocks for about 1 1/2 year, Did a fair deal of wheeling with no problem, just kind of limits your rear axle travel. I've since upgraded to Rancho RSX shocks for a Durango, they work great.

Remember to factor in the cost of a front end alignment after your done.

Yeah my father-in-law works for a goodyear dealer(hence the goodyear tires) and will run it in for the alignment, but his shop is quite a bit away just for spring compressing. Thank you for the info.

Typically AutoZone and OReilly's will loan tools - including spring compressors.

I would really recommend rear extended shocks, I know I put mine (the lift ) on for two days before my rear shocks showed up and topped them out two or three times just around town, Ranchos work well , but you can always try it for a few days and see what you think

Just an update. The lift has been ordered fri 6/20 and should be here on thursday 6/26 I will be putting the rear spacers on Friday night as well as getting the strut assemblies off. My father-in-law is going to take the strut assemblies with him to work and my rims to install the spacers and tires. I will be completing (hopefully) the install between saturday night and sunday depending on when he gets home from work. I will definately take pictures before, during, and after this process.

Thanks for all the help, hopefully this goes smoothly
