What tires are being run under the 2.5 lifts? And what gear ratio is prefered? It's my wifes daily driver. We used to do jeeps back in the day. Our friends all baught wrangler mildly set up. We just want to cruise some trail with them. I'm pretty sure I have enough exsperience to keep up with them.

Any sugestions?

Im running 245/75/16, and I still have the stock 3.73 but Im going to upgrade to 4.10 when I get the money

You lose power using the 3.73 and larger tires. The 4.10's will get just about all of it back and that is the best you can do. They don't make any 4.56 which would be better.

I run 32" tires and a 2.5" lift. Still have the stock 3.73 gears, but it does not seem to be a big of an issue with the CRD. Thanks to a friend in high places (literally), I will have my Jeep re-geared to 4.10 by the end of next week.

i'm running 265/75/26 (reallllllly close to 32's) and i have noticed a power drop but nothing i cant handle for my daily driver. it's the difference between starting out in 2nd with a stock jeep and starting out in 1st with the lift and tires. (with a 6 speed)

I had some 255/70/16 tires for a short while and it was hard to keep up with a toyota corolla going up a hill. :? Got rid of those quick and down sized to 245/70's just so I could get decent mpg and go up the many hills we have.

If this is your DD ,well the wifes DD, then you are like me
I have my TJ for "real trail's" but we still do wheel the KJ now and then
We have the OME med. duty coils and run 245/75 MTR's ,only because I got them for $50 a tire with an average of about 5K on them
She gets about 15-16 city and 20 highway MPG
The power loss due to larger tires is no more than a wrangler with the same gears and same tires
Now I will tell you this ,and I know others will argue, even with the set up I have a stock TJ with 30" MT's of any brand kicks us all over the trail you need "traction adding devices" with IFS depending on what you want from the KJ True Tracks front and rear may be good enough but TT front and ARB rear would be better but ARB rear would be great and you could turn it on and off as needed

Just my .02 worth

Guess when I did eagle rock here in CO all those TJ's sitting on 33" tires that where having trouble getting through obsticals that I crawled right up doesn't count that a KJ is equal to a TJ with the same basic setup, and yes they had lockers also(they where Rubicons).A stock TJ is not better then a 2 1/2" lifted KJ if both are open and on 30" tires, they are just about equal with the driver being the biggest advantage.

I must be missing something
open diff. = 1 wheel peel
IFS = less suspension travel
less suspension travel = more wheels off the ground
wheels off the ground with open diffs = 1 wheel peel
TJ's have > suspension travel than KJ's

stock to stock the TJ is better
lifted and 31" tall MT's on a KJ or stock TJ with MT's
TJ is better
I have also run trails with our KJ and stock TJ's on 30" MT's and trust me the TJ's are by far better
now on a long up hill the KJ has the wheel base but that is about it
now lock them both and the KJ is just as good with the right driver but no one can beat gravity

this is ofcoure if the KJ doesnt have traction control. I have open Diff's but my traction control mimics lockers.. and i have at many times had both my wheels spinning in mud and up obstacles. A KJ with go anywhere a TJ will if equally equipped.. and the same stock (with the same tires). actually sometimes more places since KJ's have no front diff to bang on rocks. and a longer wheel base and tighter turning radius. However TJ's have less bodywork down low.. but that doesnt limit the performance offroad or what they can do. oh well theres no right answer to this argument. KJ's are by far better DD's and i believe are equally as wheelable.

i've wheeled my liberty stock.. and my dad's rubicon stock.. and the lockers were the only thing saving the rubicon even with mtr's. my KJ would go right over stuff and through deep ruts where my dad's front diff would drag and the skid (aka shovel) would just pile up dirt. sometimes IFS is an advantage.. and since it is stiffer up front it really plants the back wheels when the front is up on something.

Last weekend I wheeled my KJ with 3 Wranglers. They had never seen a KJ off road and never saw one like mine. At first they were worried that I couldn't go where they went. Even offered to pull a fallen tree off the trail for me. I went over the tree and went every place they did. By the end of the day they all agreed that I was as good as they were. It felt good to show them what a KJ could do. I think that if EVERTHING is equal the KJ is equal to any Wrangler.
